Started a DVD re-watch about 40 minutes ago so only deep into Episode 1. I remember when it originally aired and even had a small model of the (space) ship, but it went completely over my head when I was 7 years old.
I have seen it in its entirety back in 2015, and, oh my, it is good. Strong Half-Life 2 vibes on Ep 1.

I haven’t watched it since it was originally on but 10-12 year old me loved it. The Liberator was a cool looking ship. I seem to remember Blue Peter showing you how to make a transporter bracelet out of a Fairy Liquid container
