I really wasn’t massively impressed by Dumb Flesh.

This is phenomenal.

Not quite as good as Dumb Flesh on early listens, but Rhesus Negative is a stormer of a track

Close up of that bit at the bottom corner. Personally I would’ve preferred it if they just made this the cover

The layout is bad. Low stage in the corner of the room makes it very hard to see anything. Think J Mascis was probably sitting when we saw him there, but not certain as I literally only caught the briefest glimpse of his cap during his set.

far from being my favourite venue but I’ve been to some really good gigs there - Dan Deacon, Ben Frost, Perfume Genius. Sounds is questionable sometimes but most of the time it’s fine. I doubt the Blanck Mass gig will be oversold or even close to sold out tbh.

:open_mouth: WTF

Absolutely love this. The vocal sample on ‘Hive Mind’ is incredible.

I’m now pretty much convinced that Benjamin John Power is the biggest musical genius of the past 10 years.

Does anybody have any recommendations of similar stuff to listen to (similar to either Blanck Mass or Fuck Buttons). Dumb Flesh and Slow Focus are my faves, if that gives you a better idea where I’m coming from. Also love White Math and D7-D5. New album shaping up nicely but it’s early days.

HA! Amazing.

Maybe Hecq’s Avenger would fit the bill?

I think early FB was quite in thrall to Black Dice

I think the last Demdike Stare release (Wonderland) ticks a lot of the same boxes.

Agree with this. And AURORA by Ben Frost and the mix EP (but you’re probably there already) and Stave stuff. I always kinda lump them in other dark electronic stuff even if it’s not a direct fit; Raime, forest swords, Haxan Cloak, Hospital Records stuff (Vatican Shadow, Prurient, alberlich), JK Flesh blah blah

Based on this alone (although I do love her previous albums) would add Pharmakon to that list too

sacred bones is the first label for ages I trust their stuff for; Pop.1280, the men, pharmakon, blanck mass… a good sign of quality horrible shit

And I loved the Millie & Andrea album from a few years back - not quite as apocalyptic as Blanck Mass but suffocating and murky.

I love Wonderland but would never have made the connection.

Thanks. I hear what you mean. This sounds like Hung and Power fuck-buttoning around in their bedrooms before Street Horrrsing.

There isn’t the same narrative quality but there are definitely a number of huge growling clangers.

So my view (for what it’s worth) is that this is a tip top album. Love it all but my highlights are probably The Rat, Hive Mind and Please. The whole thing reminds me in places of all sorts of things I love and gives me high hopes for the next FB album. Almost tempted to get tickets for the gig at The Haunt, despite my reservations about the venue. Probably won’t though as I’m old. :older_man:
