Boiling Point

Looks silly. I watched the film one when it was on Netflix and thought it was okay. They’ve now done a four-part sequel to it, first episode is on BBC1 tonight at 9. Stephen Graham angry chef. Cheers.

It’s already all on iplayer right now. I’ll watch it thought the film was good don’t quite understand how much you can stretch out of it but like to see them try. One of the appeals of it was that it took place in almost real time can’t seem them doing it over 4 episodes.

Found the film incredibly stressful and looking forward to stressing myself some more.

Was a quite good first episode but a little bit of the bantery dialogue in the kitchen felt forced and it could easily slip into cliches on the storylines i think. Still had that stressful, Safdie feel to it though.

Loved the film. Interested to see whether the series lives up to it.

Watched the film again last night (my wife hadn’t see it and wants to watch the series) and I enjoyed it more than the 1st time

Think the film was really excellent

A 4 parter seems like a good length if you’re doing this, but yeah having to stop at the end of every ep will definitely takeaway some of the full pelt stress of the film. There was nowhere to hide with that one

Each episode is an hour???

Might watch them all in one go. And then cry.

It’s just way too unrealistic and soapy for my liking.
Had the same problem with the film. Just need to dial down the drama we’ve all seen a thousand fucking times.
It’s a shame as it’s a great premise with a very good cast let down by either incredibly lazy writing or BBC execs demanding Conflict! and Drama!
Half of the characters are behaving with very little intelligence. It’s a bit insulting to the viewer really.

I’ll give episode 2 a go but I’m not going to like it.

Not seen this yet, so have no context ,but having worked in kitchens and have parents that who are chefs, this is accurate.

Ha ha ha!

spoiler for The Bear:

if this also has a deus ex soup can, I will lose my mind

Thought it was completely implausible either Chief Exec guy or Freeman
wouldn’t have said to the investors “Carly’s had to go and see her seriously ill mother” and that would have been fine

Other than that it was good.

Yeah, would investors turn up at peak time and expect the head chef to sit down with them? Seemed a bit silly but then I suppose the idea was to communicate the fact that investors are BASTARDS

Quite a lot of it seemed a bit silly and done for forced dramatic effect. But then again, maybe life in a kitchen is that bonkers. I mean, I would have thought a new wee lad would just shadow someone for a shift rather than be expected to know where everything is and be able to prepare the food in the way expected? But maybe not!

Hope episode 2 is one rolling 45min shot of Stephen Graham enjoying a few more bevvies and a ready meal in front of the snooker.

Forgot it was originally a short film - the short film and the series are on iPlayer but the full length film is on All4. Confusing.

It’s a bit much for a Sunday night.

clashed with Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing last week and you couldn’t get two more contrasting stress levels

We finished it last week it was fine in the end didn’t feel like it added anything to the original film. I don’t know :man_shrugging:
