New album called “i,i” - will be out on August 30th

Recording over a long time at April Base in Wisconsin but finishing at Sonic Ranch in Texas allowed us to feel confident, comfortable, and completely free of distraction. The sense of community around the record grew through honest, generous inspiration within the group of artists involved in the creative process of the record. The thirteen new songs on i,i complete a cycle: from the winter of For Emma, Forever Ago came the frenetic spring of Bon Iver, Bon Iver, and the unhinged summer of 22, A Million. Now, fall arrives early with i,i.

I think those 2 tracks are better than the 1st 2 couldn’t tell you how the 1st 2 tracks go but, they were meh to begin with. Damning with faint praise really.

Happy to be proved wrong, but I think 22, A Million might have been a logical end point for the Bon Iver project. The tracks so far sound like pretty much the same thing, but dialing back the deconstructivist, self-referential tendencies leaving… not much. 22, A Million sounded like Vernon was turning writer’s block into a creative alleyway to me. These maybe just feel like a creative dead end.
