Holy shit, that one with the record player is amazing.
Too young for boomboxes but also very opposed to the idea of listening to someone else’s music in public. I can appreciate them but I don’t endorse them.
If you’re swithering, I can strongly recommend that Anker speaker. I bought one a year or so ago and it’s bloody brilliant. Mine doesn’t have a strap, so it’s maybe the smaller version.
I’m using it just now. I just take it to whichever room I want music in and play my MP3s through Plexamp on my phone. But also take it on holiday and would take it camping if I’d done any of that recently
I must admit that I have held it on my shoulder, old-school boombox style too. Just once or twice.
There is a guy in Cambridge who spends every weekend cycling a loop of the main streets with speakers in a carrier bag over the handles bars, blasting out the tinniest heavy metal music imaginable. He’s been doing it since at least 2005, maybe many years before.
Can also recommend those Anker speakers, we’ve got two (one very small one and one more like that but with an input, I think it’s the Soundcore Motion) and they’re really rather good for what they are, quite stunning how loud and clear they sound.
Had that very boombox (Sharp VZ2500) for 20 years until I sold it earlier this year after deciding to change my set-up. Cool thing, very big and very heavy for a boombox and I’m not sure you’d want to carry it around for too long! (Think It took 6 big ‘D’ batteries, although I always used mine off the mains).
It was neat how it could play both sides of vinyl automatically (and on repeat). It had an Aux input so would use my phone off it too. Whilst the sound was decent for a 40 year old boombox, you can achieve a lot better for the money these now go for (Think I got £450 for mine - Pic below)
My one had detachable speakers! To this day, I have no idea why. It’s not like the cables were especially long, so you couldn’t move the speakers very far. Think it was an Aiwa.
