Like everyone else in Britain, The Killers supporting Stellastarr*.
Had I actually rather than nearly seen Sufjan supporting Rosie Thomas in Leicester in 2004 my braggingrightsometer would be off the chart.

Bon Iver first album tour (Queenās Hall) which was stunning, top 3 all time gig, think he cried on stage
with support from ⦠Anais Mitchell of Hadestown fame. Who in some ways is now a bigger cultural force than he is, almost certainly the best of my support slot sightings. I was a fan right away and got her CD on the night, so I get a lot of credit there
War on Drugs (with Kurt Vile, who also opened solo) at the Brixton Windmill
Oh and The Weeknd at Primavera Porto 2012, who would have thought heād have got that big.
Franz Ferdinand at Southampton Joiners in about 2003. They were selling t-shirts for a fiver. I saw loads of similar era bands here including Razorlight and Dogs Die In Hot Cars.
The Killers at Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms, 2004. Also saw them the week (?) before supporting Stellastarr at the same venue.
Caribou at Reading South Street Arts Club, 2005? Only about 10 people there.
Big Thief (La Belle Angele) on the Capacity tour, in post-divorce 3-piece shaved-head mode
Still probably the best Iāve seen them despite being a total Buck fanboy
I saw that tour at the Brighton Komedia , iron and wine was second on the bill and Sufjan was 3rd
The Mary Wallopers in the Sunflower (capacity: 60). Was the original trio, pre-lockdown, early 2020.
They play huge venues here now but you could probably still catch a few of them playing a pub session if you hung around Dundalk enough I imagine.
I wondered whether I did this too, but checking back we had The Subways supporting when I saw Stellastarr*
Radiohead at Nottingham Trent Uni studentsā union in 1993
My Morning Jacket at Metro in 2002
Mitski at the Victoria Dalston in 2015
Angel Olsen at Dingwalls in 2014
Beach House at Concorde 2 in 2010
DIIV at the Waiting Rom in 2012(?)
I was at that Strokes /Trail of Dead gig too.
Not really a gig but yer lad from Brianjonestown Massacre stayed on a pals sofa and we made him play until he protested he wasnt a performing monkey and then we pelted him with popcorn until he continued
Iām sure Iāve mentioned it on DiS before, but probably my number one bragging rights gig was Drive Like Jehu in 1994 at the legendary squat house 5 Arlington in Ottawa.
Photos from local scene hero Shawn Scallen:
For me it would probably be:
Sufjan at Camden Dingwalls touring Seven Swans
Joanna Newsom supporting Smog at Conway Hall as part of one of those Homefires all dayers
Bon Iver at End of the Road (does this count? It feels like one of his defining shows)
Travis as Maidstone Union Bar (could only have been about 10 of us in the audience)
Belle & Sebastian at the Union Chapel (theyād reach cult status by here, but it was only their second London show, I think)
Radiohead supporting James at Brixton Academy in '93. (Pablo Honey had been released)
Thereās probably loads of them, for starters:
Radiohead supporting James in 1993
Nine Inch Nails on their very first UK tour (it set me back all of four quid)
Nirvana on the Nevermind UK tour (they werenāt very good)
Bright Eyes at Manchester Night & Day c. 2002 (I enjoyed them considerably more than the reviewer).
Oh yeah - Jeff Buckley at the Supper Club, NYC in 1994 with Tindersticks headlining.
Arab Strapās first ever gig at King Tutās in 1996
Alex Kapranos when he was in The Blisters circa 1997 at Strathclyde Uni Cavern - was an incredible gig with The Yummy Fur, Lungleg, Pink Kross, Eska (quite probably with Stuart Braithwaite on drums) and Urusei Yatsura on the bill I think. Hardly anyone there wasnāt in one of the bands.
so youāre the cause of Dig! eh
Iāll do you one better, from the Manitoba era:
Iām sure I saw them earlier at a smaller venue, the one above is about 1000 capacity.
saw her at Yes a couple of times, but also saw Slow Club supporting Hot Club de Paris at Night and Day if that counts
