Through reading the JC I’m fully aware of the anti-Semitism that has always been bubbling under the surface to varying degree in British society, especially during the 1930s. well like i say it’s only brexit-adjacent, but it touches on the sense of british exceptionalism that results from deliberate misreadings of history. it’s powering the ERG right now. ofc there was strong domestic opposition to mosley, but there was to mussolini and hitler, so even things like cable street aren’t particularly unique to us.

Of course there was opposition to both Hitler and Mussolini but I can’t think of a Cable Street type example occurring in either Germany or Italy during their respective reigns. As someone with Jewish roots I’m very grateful to the anti-fascist groups and individuals who rallied against Mosley and the Blackshirts during those tumultuous times. Maybe it isn’t unique but equally It shouldn’t be underplayed.

Prior to her anti-Brexit stuff she was known in the charity sector for running something called the ‘True and Fair Foundation’ which sought to hold charities to account for their spending whilst seemingly being unable to understand that charities operate differently to private businesses.

The NCVO and ACF (key charity bodies) both called their major report “neither true nor fair”, the Charity Commision said it was flawed and Which called it “very misleading”.

Extremely wealthy private wealth fund manager Gina basically supports an old school Victorian model of philanthropy. Not really surprised she doesn’t like people who believe in actual redistributive economics…
