You mean the longstanding Eurosceptic MP Dennis Skinner?

Ooh there’s an app for everything now. I just looked on Hansard, basically the same few Labour MPs voting against (and tories torying of course).

Yes.

As you can see, the real deal with Dennis Skinner is that he’s’ a Labour MP. He’s in his mid-eighties, is separated, and currently resides in Bolsover.

You tee’d that up so exquisitely but I’m sensitive to the rump of complainants about Simpsons memes these days so I decided against. Shame.

I didn’t mean to but once I’d realised I had to go back.

I guess he is eurosceptic but I’ve not really seen it mentioned when people rave about him. I guess is Corbs were still on the back benches he’d probably be doing the same thing, wouldn’t he?

Perhaps he got lost in the lobbies.

Yeah him and McDonnell would be going through the division lobby with him for sure on EU matters. Apart from votes on Europe that could force the toppling of the Tory government (he’s voted consistently, I think, with the whip on those particular votes).

But yes many of the old school “Bennite” left (not sure Skinner’s a Bennite tbf, he’s a law unto himself really) are intrinsically Eurosceptic and I’m surprised that anyone would still be surprised about this. Luckily for Labour at the moment whilst Corbyn’s ideological persuasion is anti-EU, it’s not an issue which is of particular importance to him.

So do we know when May’s off to Brussels to be laughed at?

Yeah, I looked him up as I didn’t recognise the name. Apparently he’s a massive leaver, but his constituency was strongly remain, so until this point he’s backed remain positions to reflect the view of his constituents. But I guess has now figured he might as well get what he wants.

Ah so his People’s Vote support is showing a bit of ankle to his constituency above all else. Unusual position for a Labour MP to be in in fairness. Aside from Corbyn and Diane Abbott perhaps (not sure if McDonnell’s constituency is a bit Leave-y) but they could go in hard for No Deal and still get returned as MPs in their constituencies probably.

Getting laughed at down the phone tonight

It’s so fucking frustrating that the right-wing press are able to spin this as a show of strength by May and people will lap it up, when the entire negotiating fuck-up has been all within her own government - a government who are now going back to try and renegotiate a deal that they already supposedly agreed to, it will fail, and the same press will get to spin it as the big bad EU punishing little old Britain.

McDonnell’s constituency went fairly heavily leave (60% or so), but apparently is also near the top of the list of those that have swung towards remain since.

Ah cheers :+1:

remember when she said that if the EU didn’t let her get her own way she would stop telling them about potential terrorist attacks

The gulf between what people who are well informed think (i.e. people in this thread and a few of the tweets posted) and the popular press, including the BBC, seems so wide at the moment.

Donald Tusk, the president of the European council, will speak to Theresa May tonight about Brexit, a spokesman for Tusk has announced.

I soooo want to hear this conversation.
