If I was challenged with making someone’s hairs stand up on end, the version of The River w/monologue would be one of the first things I reached for.

I love everything about this live album. It’s spot on. His voice, the band, the energy, his constant shout outs to the big man and the crowd. And then the songs. Not a stinker among them!

I especially love the covers. War is HUGE! And he finally makes Jersey Girl make sense. I’ve always hated the original Waits version of that cos it felt like a Springsteen pastiche. Now it’s finally in the right hands it’s glorious!

I’m going to be going back to this album for months. Never thought I’d be this enthusiastic for a live album but I absolutely love it.

Can pretty much get behind much of what you say, with a few caveats.

The tracklisting is mostly great, with a good selection of covers, however, there are a couple of major omissions. I think ‘Prove It…’ (particularly the version he was doing around '78) and, especially, ‘Jungleland’ are misses. I think I read somewhere that they had considered a version of the latter to go on here but it was taken off due to its length, which makes sense I guess.

Also, despite it being billed as ‘Live 75-85’, only one live recording pre-dates '78 (great version of ‘Thunder Road’) Surely there were more recordings from pre-78 that they could’ve used?

That said, I’ve really enjoyed playing this over these past few days, having not really given it much of a spin in the last few years. Sounded particularly good blasting out of the car stereo today, windows down, in some of the great weather we’ve been having. I still don’t think I’ll go back to it much as there is not much reason to with all the great live releases that are now available. That said, as a document of the time, and with it following hot on the heels of the mammoth success of ‘BITUSA’, this is a pretty solid introduction for anyone who might’ve wanted to catch a glimpse of what an absolute live powerhouse Springsteen and his band were and are.

All we need is that tour confirmation for 2022 now!!

I’ve never been the biggest fan of his version of Because The Night. Patti just makes it hers and the various recorded versions Brice had done don’t quite measure up for me.

Great song though

Lot to love here. Have listened to bits of this in the past and didn’t realise the time of release essentially made it a bookend on the peak E-Street era. That’s pretty cool.

Fell a bit behind these last couple of weeks but caught up now.

Born in the U.S.A.- I’m afraid we have a banger after banger alert here. Sounds cliche but it’s one of my favorite records sitting back, bed of the truck down, beer in hand, chatting with friends with this on in the background. Or out by myself fishing. It’s a big bombastic power ballad hit machine and it works so well. Some monumental singles on this record.

Live 1975-1985 BRRRUUUUCCCCCEEEEE!!! One of my all time favorite live records from any artist ever. It’s remarkable to look at the setlist that spans over three discs and to see just how many hits the guy had by the mid 1980’s. Always a seminal live performer, you feel the intimacy of the first disc with a small club feel. Only to have Bruce on top of the world playing stadium’s and rocking them as well. Seen Bruce about 10 times live and this same energy you hear on this record is still prominent today. Don’t know how the guy does it, but I approve.

It’s three and a half hours of prime E Street Band, of course it’s going to be good!

I’d never actually listened to it straight through (well, over two days) though. It does lag a little at the beginning, and only really gets going properly towards the end of “Growing Up”, but from there on it’s just hit after hit, with a few fantastic covers and rarities thrown in for good measure. “Born in the USA” in particular sounds immense here.

Swap out a few of the earlier tracks for an encore of “Jungleland” and it would be pretty definitive, I reckon.

I was so familiar with the Patti version I wasn’t expecting much from Bruce but there’s a really strong energy in his, thinking mainly of the Promise version, love Clarence on it too. I’m a bit surprised I can’t really split them tbh. I never get sick of it.

I’m quite into the Pointer Sisters version of Fire too

Little bonus listen this week, the first of the EPs (which I don’t think we’ll bother scoring or selecting songs from, they’ll just be thrown in some midweeks, quite a few more to come). Available on Spotify and YouTube and I’m sure other places, this is the Live 1975-85 EP, featuring For You and Incident on 57th Street not on the parent album. The performance of Incident would be the last until 1999.

Bit silly to include the exact same version of Rosalita as on the LP. No one’s going to complain about hearing Incident on 57th Street however.

Garry W. Tallent’s finest hour, imho

While we’re on a live week, an archive show from the Wrecking Ball tour has went up, with a strong setlist:

Oooh, this sounds good. I loved the Wrecking Ball tour with that horn section and those backing singers.

Yeah, this might well be the best tour I’ve seen him on for those very reasons.
