lot of Bruce Springsteen fans disguised as empty seats
Had really high hopes for the film cos of the source material - both the Warren Zanes book itself and generally the mythology of that part of Springsteenās career.
That choice of focus + on paper perfect casting made me think they were onto something potentially great. Hopefully it will be, but the trailers + even just putting Springsteen in the title make me think itāll be way more of a cheesy cash grab than it ought toāve been. I thought it was A24 but it being 20th Century stacks up with the marketing so far.
Hopefully itās just the way theyāre selling it and the film itself will be fine. The Dylan film was as generic as biopics get but I still enjoyed that tbf
Iām expecting fairly generic biopic fare, but weāll see what comes out of it. Feels like putting Springsteen in the title was because we were already looking at something similar to the Dylan one, Deliver Me From Nowhere is close enough to A Complete Unknown so I assume they wanted to focus it a bit.
More interested in the Nebraska reissue than the film tbh.
I reckon putting Springsteen in the title is actually a reflection of the film being more challenging and less of a greatest hits biopic.
Not really sure how you get to that conclusion.
I reckon if they were confident that the film was going to be popular they wouldnāt worry about adding his name to the title, like with A Complete Unknown.
So my theory is that this period of Bruceās history is less obviously a box office hit, and more likely to be a challenging study of a bloke pushing away from success.
But yeah, itās pure speculation.
Love this. Canāt wait until Friday. Will probably treat myself to the LP box.
If youāre after some unreleased material to tide you over, it seems some previously uncirculated songs have been put out by someone who has ācome acrossā them from a collected or āUberā fan. Clearly, this has made some unhappy.
Quite like this unreleased track which seems like itās taken from an '82 rehearsal. Genuinely has a ska vibe. Fun.
I think I understand why Springsteen opted to release the demos rather than these electric versions
Not listened yet, but my take on the story was that Steve Van Zandt persuaded him to release the demo stuff rather than the band, might be wrong though.
Springsteen himself said in 1998: āI went into the studio, brought in the band, rerecorded, remixed and succeeded in making the whole thing worse,ā
Yeah, that Atlantic City version is rough
Having this weird anxiety where Iām constantly expecting Tom Morello to come blazing in with a widdly FX heavy solo any second. Those early 2010s shows have scarred me for life.
Itās bewilderingly average, other than the Atlantic city drums which feel like theyāre copy and pasted from another song
The live album is really good
Yeah itās not great. Does serve to make the proper record even more special though.
The release in general has had a slight vibe of āif you want it, fineā
Losin Kind and Child Bride in te demos disc are both amazing though, would take either over Used Cars on the proper record
