Ditto. I’ve never seen them and even if they ever played again, the bird has flown. Real art. Love when Gibby hugs guy, kicks him, sets self on fire, gets drum pattern played out on his chest whilst doing a mellow crowd surf.
Sad to hear of Teresa Taylor’s passing over the weekend. She’d been in a hospice for a while so not unexpected. But, still, RIP to a proper legend! Just listening to a bit of Psychic Powerless…

Looks pretty good. Hopeful that it covers the whole career rather than the golden age which is fairly well documented at this point. New live album looks pointless. I’m a bit tired of a lot of the obvious cash-in stuff coming out, which is making me overly wary of what looks like a solid labour of love documentary.

I listened to Rembrandt Pussyhorse for the first time ever today. Reviews suggest it is their most experimental album but I disagree with this quite a lot. It’s mostly the Buttholes at their most accessible with that near R.E.M. sound.
Creep In The Cellar sounds like Neil Young.

I also listened to The Vinyl Guide podcast featuring Gibby Haynes and that is some of the funniest shit I have ever heard in my entire life. The alternate band names had me in bits.

I listened to it on a pretty full bus last week and was just laughing out loud at some of the stuff Gibby was coming out with. I couldn’t believe how his voice sounded but he seemed in a good place and was enjoying himself. By the end of the podcast practically everything he said had me in bits.
Great album. Wild how un-punk/un-rock it is. I see what you mean re: how experimental it’s meant to be. In some ways, it’s more accessible than any of the records they’d done until that point. But it’s also totally and utterly unique. Like a haunted carnival or something. But better than what that suggests.

It gets more unhinged the more it goes on (Rembrandt). Amazed I’ve never listened to it before. I usually just go for LAT or HTS and I think they are both classic albums with practically nothing to compare them to. I don’t really listen to anything post HTS, no idea why.
Let me know what you think of the podcast in time, just so damn funny. The podcast host can be annoying generally but he’s on top form for that episode and is clearly loving hearing the random stuff Gibby comes out with. He’s almost 70 which made me think quite hard for a second or two.
