probably reveals a lot about my priveleged upbringing, but I used to watch it occasionally and didn’t really have a clue what the setup was - are these kids in care? is this a foster home or a youth club? do they live there with the weird moustache man?
Byker Grove was always a youth club, but in lots of working class areas in the 80s/90s/before austerity came in youth clubs were essentially backdoor childcare situations where kids could hang out there for long periods of time.
