Caaaaaaaaaardiff

I’ve posted this a few times before, but there used to be a massage parlour at the top of Crwys Road just near the junction for Whitchurch Road. Someone had stencil-graffitied: “BEALE BLOWS GOATS” on the front and side of it. No idea who Beale is/was.

There’s so much odd graffiti - the Sophia Walk/Sophia Can’t Walk/Sophia Can Walk saga is still going on.

is that crazy house still there with the anti council writing on? think it was somewhere near splott?

Riverside. Sadly not. Presumably he got evicted in the end.

If you fancy a wander out of the centre, there’s some decent beer places in Canton these days. Crafty Devil (run by the local brewery of the same name) and St Canna’s (both on Llandaf Road, opposite the Butcher’s Arms) are pretty good. There’s also Chapter nearby, of course, although I don’t think the bar is as good since the rebuild, tbh. The Lansdowne pub, which used to be a total dive, has been taken over and redone. Good selection of ales and decent food. It’s sister pub, the Grange, is better in my view, but is in Grangetown, and probably not worth a specific trip unless you happen to be nearby.

Also in Canton for food, you’ve got Chai Street, The Purple Poppadom, another Got Beef, (the ludicrously named) Time & Beef, Sen Turkish BBQ, and Calabrisella (the best Italian restaurant in Cardiff bar none) all on Cowbridge Road East between Kings Road and Llandaff Road. Up in Pontcanna, Kemis does the best salads, Lufkin is a good coffee roasters/coffee shop, the Pipes brewery have just reintroduced their Pumpkin Spiced Ale and do weekly open bars, Brod (the Danish Bakery) have awesome pastries, and Cafe Castan does some great snacks and lunches for sitting Llandaff Fields with if it’s nice out.

I am now assuming you are saying Cardiff in this manner:

Just saying it how it’s pronounced locally, isn’t it.

Looks like the good stuff has mostly been covered. Few more bits for you, Smallbar http://www.smallbar.co.uk/cardiff/ (craft beer) Urban Tap House run by Tiny Rebel Tiny Rebel Bars - Tiny Rebel Brewing does nice food as well decent booze. It’s on Womanby St just up from Clwb Ifor Bach (for all your dancing needs) which I’m sure you already know. City Arms is just up from UTH and is a great local boozer with good ales https://twitter.com/cityarmscardiff?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author

Few decent restaurants - http://cafecitta.com/ small but family run and great Italian food. Asador 44 https://asador44.co.uk/ Spanish food. Highly recommended (right next door to City Arms) or for a quick lunch New York Deli in High St Arcade or Cafe Minuet http://www.restaurantminuet.co.uk/

Also in the city centre you’ve got the Potted Pig and the Hashery for food up the top end of High Street, Outpost for coffee in the Fashion Quarter (Womanby Street again) and soon in the central market too. Corner Coffee on High Street is also supposed to be very good.

Further to your post about Tiny Rebel, I think Stay Puft might be my favourite beer in the world, so if you go and it’s on, have some because it’s rad.

For some reason Cathays Community Centre sometimes has good shows on too, probably worth checking

good point. Going to this later in year.

The selection of spirits is awesome as well. The only shop I’ve ever seen selling poteen. Wish they’d hurry up and get their online shop working

Pretty much all my recommendations have been covered. Will just third/fourth the Urban Tap. If you plan a sweep of Small Bar/City Arms/Urban Tap/Hopbunker that’s a pretty solid wee ale crawl in the centre right there. Grab a burger in the Tap and you’re sorted. There’s a Brewdog round the corner from the Tap as well if you can handle the raw punk attitude or whatever.

Bloody love Cardiff.

Probably going there to see Lower Slaughter/Rope tonight as it happens. Never been before.

It’s great, I used to rehearse in there. The guys who run the cafe (Riverside Sourdough) are amazing too.

Good news. Shame the cafe isn’t open a bit later as it looks really nice. I have not planned my evening well/at all.

Love Lower Slaughter but definitely remember your earplugs
