Fair enough, he comes across very well in that interview. I think we were generally a bit guilty of taking the accusations at face value in this thread, probably in part fueled by a dislike of the band’s image/music.

Their music is never going to be to my taste - and the gross out dinner lady video is enough to put me off investigating any further but their response to the allegations is pretty admirable and level headed. Hopefully this won’t overshadow their career.

It does seem like its more down to a misjudgment of the type of crowd they were playing to and the bit about what sometimes works in a small club gig might not come across well at a larger gig with younger fans makes sense. I’m still not a massive fan but I remember Blur used to do mental stuff live when they were starting out so it would be shame to see them crucified for this before they get a chance to develop as a band.

As hard as it is sometimes it’s best to refrain judgment about these type of things. Unless you are there or are able to talk to the parties involved it’s impossible to have an accurate picture of what happened. Particularly when it’s being reported second hand.

Much better is to invest in institutions that take these things seriously and you trust in their judgment. Really shows why you need organisations such as SG4W to help to get to the truth of these issues while taking claims of adult very seriously

I took this as him trying to be very careful about what he said and thus it sounding really stupid. I think he just means that jeans are usually too thick to scratch your crotch so he would naturally just put his hand down his jeans and scratch through his boxers, and that no one has ever questioned him about this until now. Not exactly hygienic I guess but there you go.

Sometimes you do see people in the street that just walk around with their hand in their trousers… (normally trackies as it’d be kind of hard with tight jeans) It’s really unpleasant but I thought that’s what he meant.

Yeah I guess. Dunno, I’m not going to care too much about this. I’d be hypocritical if I expected rock stars to have gone the full Robbie Williams before each gig because we all know most of the equipment just gets pulled out of a box from the last set and because I know I never made a point of washing my hands before getting on stage to play set. (I mean obviously I never had fans to interact with, but still…)

Sounds very much as if the two nights thing caused a lot of the confusion, maybe? I don’t think this was a bad discussion to have had in the music industry either.

yeah, every lad in my old manchester office seemed quite comfortable walking around with their hands down their trousers. i hated it - but nobody else seemed phased by it
