Mainly just how the thread has become (white), privileged people joking about the terms woke and cis and how it’s all just so silly, without really investing any time to see whether they’re just dismissing a whole strand of progressive discourse, in the same way that people joked around about the idea of SSP and its name.

It’s like… that Overton Window thing shifts so subtly, yet so completely, that every single one of us, without question, is unconsciously displaying a huge number of prejudices today that’ll be viewed as monstrous by future generations. It can’t be helped. It’s just what happens.

I sometimes feel like those who strive to be “woke” are simply striving to be “on the right side of history” so as to eliminate any chances that they might ever be viewed as anything less than virtuous. It’s impossible, somewhat puritanical, and a lot of the time it feels like you’re being told WHAT to think (rather than HOW to think).

Many will view me as a monster for the above. I’d say “you can’t win,” but that would imply that the whole thing’s a game. It isn’t.

Oh come off it. You’re reaching quite a lot here and being incredibly accusation and essentially suggesting we’re all homophobic, transphobic AND racist.

No one is dismissing any strand of society. Asking about where the term cis comes from is not joking about it.

Please pick some examples from individuals if you’re going to charge in and suggest these things.

Once again, you’re (deliberately?) misconstruing what people say to stoke up some BEEVES. I didn’t say that people were dismissing a strand of society, or that anyone was homophobic, transphobic or racist.

Individually these posts might not suggest much, but collectively they suggest a snarky dismissal of a whole strand of discourse and way of expression, as well as playing to a crowd:

UH?! Can’t believe your quoting me - that was me being genuinely honest saying that sometimes I struggle to keep up, and sometimes I’ll read threads on twitter and be like ‘oh I had no idea’. I dont get how this is supposed to be snarky or dismissive, I’m sure there’s a lot of people who feel the same way.

I call the woman i married by her name. Refer to her as my partner or wife or sometimes her indoors for a chuckle. (the chuckle being she goes out more than me)

FFS. You can’t respond to everything I am saying by saying I’m deliberately trying to start beeves! I’m not. I’ve told you I’m not in other threads. Maybe you need to look at how you’re posting/reading me if this is how you feel.

But you’ve just pulled out people talking about the word woke and you’re suggesting we’re all gonna look back and be ashamed we spoke about the use of the word woke.

What does woke mean to you? Where does it come from? It is part of the normal vocabulary of twitter when any serious discussion takes place which is what our convo was. Wanna take part in the discussion or do you wanna just barge in and shame us all?
