Have these people heard of the internet?

Nah, I mean the point was that no one who has previously used this forum has had an issue with it. I’m not sure if this is a case of people just using the normal ‘report and kill’ method or just that its use has mostly been quite ‘serious’ forums? I presuming adding the option mustn’t be easy in their code or else they’d have done it.

Could we do it with CSS?

are you shitting me?

Ok, I’ve added some CSS to not display images in posts. Don’t know if there are any unintended consequences, and doesn’t stop images being uploaded.

just when i thought we were going to join the 20th century!

Was going to suggest having an ‘images’ tag and then showing images where the thread is tagged with it. But I don’t think that’s possible with CSS. And I should be going out now.

Okay good work but there’s one showing above your post so is it in place already?

I’ve turned them on again, was just a trial.

Ah! Cool then, thanks.

Do you think it’s something we could do at the top of the site with a link back to the old site and then a link to turn off all images?

I would imagine it wouldn’t be too hard to add a little button somewhere to toggle images in comments on and off

I’ve put in a request over on the @discourse forums

Good idea! That’s the best way forward.

this guy’s just earned his ‘reply via email’ badge

Just popping in to offer my support for image minimalisation in whatever the most convenient form is.

[details=Perhaps we could all hide our images like this?]

Pro: It’s a throwback to olddis where you have to click to see the image

Con: It’s cruel and unusual punishment for japes

EDIT: OH MY GOD THIS WASN’T SUPPOSED TO BE A REPLY TO THE CAPTAIN. WHY DO I KEEP DOING THIS?

@sean This is probably a stupid question, but are all these images we’re uploading going to cost the site more $$$?

If so, I might have a couple of follow up questions.

I don’t think so. It’s charged per 100k pageviews upto 200k pageviews and then I have to chat with @discourse about the rate.

We also have the option to self-host but that would involve server admin and no tech support.

Might have to rethink things.
