Minority Report for me, think it’s a good cross of his various modes. He’s obviously great in his full-on action star roles, but you usually know exactly what you’re getting from minute one.

tough one for someone I don’t think of as an actor I particularly like, few performances standing out there for his different modes

Jerry Maguire is probably my fav film of his, and fav performance too - makes great use of his charm and megawatt personality, undercuts it a little without going full against-type a la Magnolia. Just remember it as funny, full of life, felt totally natural in a leading-man type way

Collateral and Magnolia both excellent for “bad guy” roles, Magnolia felt especially resonant for seeing it the first time this year but it’s such an ensemble film that would feel odd to me to have his best role in that context. Collateral though, moody cool dangerous but still makes you root for him somehow - nothing special or flashy but just exactly what that film needs to make it click

Edge of Tomorrow and Minority Report (going to rewatch that soon) both great for sci-fi/action man roles but in service of films with some Heart and Message, where he can add a load more pathos than many of his action star peers would

never seen Fourth of July, keen to get to that eventually

yeah same here, BAR is a perfect “big star going weird” role and Moneyball is so low key and compact, nothing flashy but just perfect for the role. Feels like Collateral a bit too, others could have pulled it off but wouldn’t have had quite the depth and their charisma is part of what makes these relatively simple characters so compelling

of the BIG roles I’d go Fight Club having just rewatched it, he’s such a vibe in it and manages to shine while still getting so gritty and down dirty
