And it’s not a 3 point turn anymore - you have to call it a ‘turn in the road’.
Can’t even sing Ba Ba Black Sheep these days.
It was £20 for me (15 years ago), or £10 if I used my own car (my mum’s car). So I did.
Driving lesson prices have ‘stuck’ at about £20/hr for the best part of 20 years, I think I read somewhere.
Back in the days of BSM and the like, it was a licence to print money, but not so much now.
Incorrect, actually. Nintendo made sure they got an International DriveSafe certification for the Switch, so it is globally approved for use whilst driving.
Sold!
Driving just got at least £280 even more expensive!
Anecdotally true for me, from taking lessons on and off from 18 to 30.
Not when you factor in esports money from all the Splatoon tournaments I’ll be winning!
OK, well that just confirms how old I am. Originally had lessons when I turned 17 and I’m pretty sure they were about £10-15. That was 23 years ago.
Finally pulled my finger out 20 years later
So glad you said this, I often “you stay out too far”, when I’m pretty sure I’m not.
Of course, quite a lot of it is “you stay out too far” from me
I learned to drive 21 years ago, albeit in an area with no public transport (captive market), and my lessons were £17/hr.
I can’t find the report I read it in, but basically the prices shot up between 1990 and 2000, and then stalled.
if you’re hugging the kerb, you also can’t be seen by drivers (sometimes), and you risk getting caught behind parked cars and are also at the risk of potholes and other road debris commonly found in the gutter. it also means that drivers actually have to conciously pass you, rather than give you a cursory 30 cm gap as they pass. act like a slow moving car, don’t make sudden movements, and take the lane where necessary and safe.
sick reference.
I probably going to print this off and say “see. told you so” next time it happens
Always thought reversing round a corner was a really weird thing to learn - Especially as they make you do it the wrong way…
Obviously nobody has ever used that manoeuvre in real life, but if you did it makes zero sense to reverse around a corner against the flow of traffic.
Cars are going to be driverless in like a week or so, making this entire thread (even more) redundant.
this
I paid £10 an hour in 1992. But then that was deepest West Wales, not the metropolis of the City.
Haven’t driven for about 5 years as I just have no need to. Updated my license this week though so am still able to.
A bit nervous about driving again after so long. Never had an accident but I was never a great driver anyway.
I saw some stat that said 80% of people would class themselves as an above average driver which obviously can’t be true.
