OK, well that just confirms how old I am. Originally had lessons when I turned 17 and I’m pretty sure they were about £10-15. That was 23 years ago.

I learned to drive 21 years ago, albeit in an area with no public transport (captive market), and my lessons were £17/hr.

I can’t find the report I read it in, but basically the prices shot up between 1990 and 2000, and then stalled.

if you’re hugging the kerb, you also can’t be seen by drivers (sometimes), and you risk getting caught behind parked cars and are also at the risk of potholes and other road debris commonly found in the gutter. it also means that drivers actually have to conciously pass you, rather than give you a cursory 30 cm gap as they pass. act like a slow moving car, don’t make sudden movements, and take the lane where necessary and safe.

Always thought reversing round a corner was a really weird thing to learn - Especially as they make you do it the wrong way…

Obviously nobody has ever used that manoeuvre in real life, but if you did it makes zero sense to reverse around a corner against the flow of traffic.

Haven’t driven for about 5 years as I just have no need to. Updated my license this week though so am still able to.

A bit nervous about driving again after so long. Never had an accident but I was never a great driver anyway.

I saw some stat that said 80% of people would class themselves as an above average driver which obviously can’t be true.

I do a reverse around the corner all the time. Much rather do one of those than a turn in the road.

they make you reverse around a corner into a side road. They don’t take you into the side road and then make you reverse around it.

I regularly use this maneuver as the road next to my road is a one way street so i reverse around the corner and park there. No idea if this is allowed though but haven’t been caught yet!

Regardless of how busy the road your reversing into is, your still going against the flow. This is more an issue in a larger vehicle than a car, but it’s a blind side reverse too - much easier to reverse around a right hand corner as you’ve got much better visibility on that side. Everything about it seems a bit daft and something you would avoid unless completely necessary IRL. Do a turn in the road, or swing around to block the road and reverse straight back into the driveway or whatever - you have control over what the other traffic is doing then (i.e. They have no choice but to wait for you)

I don’t think reversing through a No Entry sign is allowed, either
