A remake of the 2011 album Twin Fantasy. Apparently reworked all the tunes after previously saying he “left it unfinished”. Never listened to the original which has made it feel like a new album to me and a lot of others. Enjoy!

I’ve had to listen to this in sections…because I didn’t want to put one of the longer songs on and not pay full attention to it. It IS a bit indulgent at times…but that’s the nature of a reworked earlier album, I guess. Beach Life-In-Death, Bodys and Famous Prophets are highlights so far.

Teens of Denial is a great album too, especially Hippie Powers.

Incredible album. Full of bangers

Yeah, as other people are saying, definitely listen to Teens of Denial. “Vincent” is another highlight - the perfectly done slow-build combined with the way it explodes around the 3:54 mark made me an instant fan.

You have no RIGHT to be depressed
You haven’t tried hard enough to like it
Haven’t seen enough of this world yet
But it hurts, it hurts, it hurts
Well stop your whining, try again
No one wants to cause you pain
They’re just trying to let some air in
But you hold your breath, you hold your breath, you hold it
Hold my breath, I hold my breath, I hold it

I love his indulgent stuff The Ballad of the Costa Concordia I think is his best song. Just so many references, both musical and otherwise and a wonderful song that deals with bleak existential dread.

I think the self-indulgence in Twin Fantasy is more forgivable though because of its really about teenage love isnt it? Teenage love being the most self indulgent thing in existence after all!

I know it’s early and that I’m only on my second listen and that it’s fresh in my mind, but I’d be shocked if “Beach Life-In-Death” doesn’t end up as the song of the year. Amazing.

The ‘I don’t want to go insane bit’. Get a bit goosebumpy

All I ever heard from this band was that song with the long title about a whale. Couldn’t hear what the fuss was about. I listened to a few of the clips in this thread. I’m afraid I still don’t hear it.

So many of these bands sound alike to me, with the singer sounding as though he has just got up after a heavy night and is not fully awake yet.

If you list these bands…I can work out if you’re talking nonsense or not.

Huge fan of the “Do you have something against dooooooogggggggsssssssssss?” bit.

I am a big fan of that guitar ‘riff’ in ‘Nervous Young Inhumans’, not so keen on the talkie bit at the end, never mind. I prefer his riffier songs like ‘Bodies’ etc. That’s another great song that one.

Wonder how much of this album they’ll play on their next tour over here. Got tickets, it should be brilliant. I spoke to Stewart Lee at his show a week ago and he said he’d been a fan of them since their Bandcamp days, which was pretty cool.

My other half has been subjected to this over the last few days…but didn’t mind so much because she enjoyed them at EOTR. She’s getting into it now and has even started singing some lyrics. Unfortunately she is a big one for mishearing lyrics (old CSH song)

I DON’T WANT TO GO INSIIIIIIIIDE!

Yeah, the more I listen, the more this indulgence becomes quite endearing. I find the whole album really encapsulates that “end of the world” feeling of early infatuation…despite the much larger sonics it feels like a much more intimate album than, say, Teens of Denial. Because of that…I sadly think High to Death feels a little misplaced thematically…a shame because its a great song (Will should write more slower ones…Drugs with Friends/The Ballad of CC are cases in point).

Probably the one songwriter (in the indie/rock scene at least) that I’m most excited about hearing more from now.

I had a little listen to CSH about a year ago (when Teens of Denial came out?) and liked what I heard but kind of forgot about him until this thread prompted me to check it out again.

So I’ve downloaded all his free early albums, I haven’t touched 1-4 yet but have been enjoying Monomania and My Back is Killing Me Baby and I’ve just started on Nervous Young Man.
There’s a lot of get though and can’t help wonder if editing might help (although that might be part of the charm) it’s 20 songs, two of which are over 15 mins and most of the rest over 4 or 5 mins. I put it on for my commute and an hour later I get to work, I look and see I’m still only on track 8!

I’ll give Twin Fantasy a go next.

This is really fucking good and a great idea by him to re-record and re-release it. Teens of Denial is flipping brill but I’d hesitated going back to the old albums because it felt like there was just too much there for such a “new” artist.

This might end up overtaking Teens of Denial for me. He’s such a great lyric writer. Love all the call backs and stuff going on.

Grumpy they are not playing Brighton on this tour - they were great on the last tour
