Did I read a thing about her fairly recently saying she was bankrupt? I remember thinking that was sad, and odd, as she seems relatively successful. Have I invented this?

She’s never been great at doing live stuff and I guess we’ve been in a situation where live gigs offers the best chance of making money back for a while now. Maybe been a bunch of gigs she’s done where she’s had to give refunds due to anxiety etc too? So all in all, I wouldn’t be surprised to find she’s struggling financially.

Nearly every time I’ve seen her she’s been great.

By ‘never been great’ I meant about actually doing gigs? Maybe I’m mistaken but back around the You Are Free period and that ATP I only read about how gigs had been cut short or abandoned because she was struggling with anxiety etc.

When she played that ATP set I recall a lot of people weren’t really sure if she’d be able to get through the gig.

I was thinking actually how this tour seems well suited to making a reasonable return

Touring alone (I assume) with just a guitar (piano, amp provided by the promoter), local support acts. The show in Brighton was about £25 a ticket - which is more than you pay to see a lot of bands in that venue

I can’t recall the exact details but just after Sun was released she was incredibly ill - some sort of immune issue I think. It meant she had to cancel touring, promotion and most importantly had to pay vast hospital bills - think she was in hospital for several months, which in the US would pretty much bankrupt anyone. This is the period when she cut her hair, dyed it blonde and just looks very odd in photographs.

At any rate, I’m pleased she’s still going (or going again). Proper talent – good on her.

absolutely - love her.

She was absolutely amazing last night. Had a few battles with nerves, but got through them.
The crowd was entirely in awe throughout thankfully no sign of any walkouts. It was a seated gig and there were a few standing ovations.
By the end she wasn’t even playing an instrument, just singing acapella.

I’m only vaguely aware of her music (must listen to more) but as a bystander, I really hope she does well and is performing well on this tour. Not just for the fans but generally. I remember reading an interview and she seemed lovely. Had been through some stuff too.

She made reference to the crowd last night about how we all go through shit and she just about stopped herself from going into details… she seems to be in a much better place now thankfully although she’s definitely someone with a lot of demons to battle.

She was so fucking brilliant in Brighton. It was lovely to see her on form again. She’s such a talent.

On the strength of this thread I have just picked up from eBay Moon Pix, You Are Free and The Greatest for a total of £9.97. Boom :boom:

She was superb live at APE last month

About bloody time. Pretty sure this was being tracked in January of last year. Must mean the Matador deal was for 1 album.

Nothin But Time & Back In The Day are probably my 2 favourite songs of hers. Can’t wait hopefully a full band show in Manchester this time.

It was six years between The Greatest and Sun (leaving aside Jukebox), so not surprised we’ve had another six-year gap.

Nothin But Time is amazing.

Jukebox and the Dark Side Of The Street E.P. probably make it seem less plus she has never really stopped touring or doing the odd show.

Nothin But Time is my favourite on that album. 10/10 song.
