My two guys are now outdoors cats! Three days in a car was worth it. Sausage has been visiting the cafe below our house (it’s on a steep hill) and has become their mascot! I’m going to try putting a collar on him, he’s too friendly for his own good. I’m worried someone will try to take him in

How easy is to introduce a four year old cat to a collar? I’m pretty sure our older cat would claw me to death.

Never tried but i reckon food might be key if he doesn’t like it. Eg if you start with putting it on briefly, or trying to, then rewarding with a treat, and work up from there.

(Collar sounds like a good idea as some people will “find” a cat and are too thick to take it to the vets to check for a microchip, but i presume he is microchipped as well?)

Sausage is an excellent name for a cat. It’s what I call mine sometimes even though it’s not actually her name.

Sausage was the name of my very first cat because I was 4 years old and he looked like a bratwurst.
Now, of course, I just call them all purr-sausage.

This makes me so fucking furious.

My sister was telling me a few weeks ago about her arsehole friend that did it. A cat would come to their flat and beg for food, so they fed it, and it came back more often, would nap in their living room etc. When they moved to the other side of London they fucking took the cat with them. And they were like “if it belonged to somebody it would have a collar”, having complained in the same conversation that they could not get a collar on it. Refused to take it to be scanned. Awful people.

My partner had a big chonk of a cat who loved food and had no loyalty about 6 years ago. She started staying out the house for longer and longer and one day never came back. Somebody must have just decided to claim her because she has no collar. One day when she’s old and sick whoever stole her will have to take her to the vets, she’ll get scanned and we’ll suddenly get billed for all the treatment, because if you’re not even scanning a cat then you’re not buying insurance for them. And that’s our best case scenario, because my partner is still very upset about it and wants to know what happened, until we hear something she’s going to keep worrying that somebody just kicked her into the canal or something.

Same, absolutely.

I’m not in favour of feeding pets at all if they aren’t yours and they don’t look underweight/like a stray. And obviously if you are worried it’s a stray, don’t just feed it, take it to the vets! Just because it’s begging for food doesn’t mean it’s underfed. Some animals will just eat and eat and it’s not good for them, or they might have allergies that you don’t know about. Don’t feed other people’s pets!!!

Well, he is but I cant see any of their antics since the clocks went back and it got darker. Who knows what they’re getting up to!

Mine always ignores the telly except occasionally when the snooker’s on when he’ll try and push the balls around with his paw.

Though I looked out the window this afternoon to see him sat outside with 3 neighbourhood kids (gently) poking him with sticks and he just went cross eyed and carried on taking it think he’s a bit special
