Doesn’t look like we have a thread for her.
New album is good isn’t it?
It’s great. Maybe not quite as striking as the last one, but they are both really excellent albums.
i liked Reward and it was nice that it seemed to get a lot more attention than her previous records, but i didn’t like it quite as much as the previous ones tbh
getting quite into the new one which i prefer
Listening right now. Really love it.
Someone else mentioned a few tracks are slightly Julia Holter ish and I definitely hear that.
Love that she hasn’t just kept repeating the sound she established on CYRK.
Have generally found her to be quite a tough nut to crack but gave the new one a listen yesterday and enjoyed it a lot. Must’ve been in just the right headspace. Found myself really focussing in on the basslines, which sound lovely throughout. Read afterwards that she wrote most of it on bass……
you don’t hear much about her first two albums so i had kind of dismissed them both in my mind for a while and assumed they were a bit more basic or something.
stumbled across a cheap copy of Cyrk in a record shop last year and took a punt and it’s brilliant. much closer to Mug Museum and Crab Day than i expected.
still need to revisit the debut.
Really need to give her earlier records another listen. I did give them a go at the time but nothing real grabbed me until Reward. It wouldn’t be the first time I went back and found that I’d completely missed the point though.
First album is a nice singer songwriter album but I think it’s CYRK where she really finds her voice and distinct sound. Mug Museum definitely sounds like a direct development nfrom CYRK.
that’s kind of what i expected, but i had assumed it must apply to the first two as she wasn’t playing anything from either of them when she was touring Crab Day
The 2 off cuts mini albums - CYRK 2 and Rock Pool - are both excellent as well.
I found Reward to be a little cold and it never got under my skin, but the first couple of listens to this were really positive. Think she’s brilliant.
just listening to her for the first time outside of one or two tracks thanks to IcSmic
Looks like Crab Day is about to be reissued on vinyl - might buy a copy. It would be nice if Mug Museum came out again as well.
getting bits of Rozi Plain in here, on the new one
Yeah I’ve been after Mug Museum for a while but even on CD it’s always a few quid more than I’d like on Discogs or eBay
Didn’t buy Crab Day at the time but might grab one if she’s selling them on tour
Reasonably priced as well, by the look of it.
