Absolutely. My mate decided to have his stag-do in Amsterdam. I’m not really an ‘Amsterdam’ kind of bloke and was skint anyway so decided I’d tell him face-to-face I couldn’t go. We met for a pint and the first thing he said to me was “I can’t believe all the fuckers pulling out of my stag do - you find out who your friends are, eh?”

Obviously I shook my head sadly, fretted for three months and then went to Amsterdam. Had a fairly good time.

That is so mean! It’s emotional blackmail!!!

I don’t want to be in a relationship where I’m guilted into being someones friend! I would feel awful if someone felt like they had to hang out with me for fear of me sulking. That’s TOTAL bullshit.

EDIT: Sorry, I’m sure your friend wasn’t being like that. I was reacting to people in my life who have been a bit like that. I hate it! HATE it.

The mind boggles as to how a computer problem stops you making sandwiches.

For some v. boring reasons, the GF and I are in slough currently. We are going to salvage the experience by going here in a bit when it opens

gonna get my dosa on

Sounds like he’s putting far too much emotional weight on presence at the stag do as indicating how strong the friendships are. If you don’t come, you don’t like me, etc.
But yes, he’s being a dick. If you want 30 people to show up, don’t have a stag do that’s so expensive it’s by definition exclusionary. £800 is a lot to find even if you’re on good money.

Often they aren’t even mushy peas - it’s just garden peas mashed and minted.

Just gotta let it (Hel)sink(i) in and I’m sure we’ll be golden again. Still feel a huge sense of relief that I’ve told him.

Definitely. It’s his problem, not yours (or anyone else he’s invited). He’s being quite selfish by the sounds of it, if paying for this would trash your anniversary plans (was that you?), and if he’s otherwise an alright guy, he’ll take himself off to the nordi step…
