Conversely, seeing them support every single band who ever played at King Tut’s for about 400 million years made me hate then long before it was fashionable.

Glasgow indie pop supergroup. Mostly shite with good moments.

What was that one amazing Burns Unit song?

haven’t listened to any Reindeer Section stuff in years so don’t remember whether most of it was any good or not, but it would have been my introduction to Aidan Moffat at least

Salako were the other decent Jeepster band from that era. They were pretty good!

Hearing Chocolate again is a proper blast from the past. This was a decent tune as well:

Agreed, it does makes sense. It just sounds weird to me but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Have to admit I hadn’t noticed that about I Gotta Feeing before and in the context of the other lyrics this one doesn’t make sense. Sorry Will.

Ah, that’s interesting. Dunno how I’d find it then but, at the time, it came across as this insufferable, self-congratulatory pissing around.

Much the same as when you spend the weekend fuckking around drinking and jamming with your mates really.

Fun for you but not for anyone else

I’ve still got time for Reindeer Section stuff. I actually heard them first, so it was a massive disappointment when I heard Snow Patrol for the first time.

can confirm this Moffat one is still very good

My sister in law bought a snow patrol album on CD back in the day because it had him out of belle and seb playing piano on it. I seem to remember thinking it was alright but this was about twenty years ago? Haven’t listened to it since.

Remember feeling cool picking up Be Your Own Pet from the bottom of the new release wall while Eyes Open graces number 1 on the chart wall at Virgin Megastores.

also I would genuinely rather hear Chasing Cars 1000 times before I ever heard I Gotta Feeling (it’s I GOT A Feeling William you prick) ever again

Check out Reindeer Section - You Are My Joy. That’s quite good.

Always forget that Final Straw is actually pretty good

I seem to remember, but not sure, did Snow Patrol pull a Stereophonics and sack an ugly bloke to put in a good looking rooster?? Or was it that big man Gary sacked everyone??

anyway, not much into this song for - just bland, radio hit by numbers (Ed Sheeran must have nicked this surely?), I remember this song being in every emotional moment in tv/film for aaaages

Yes it was called ‘Run’

Don’t think so. I remember the original bassist being ‘musical differenced’ out of the band around the time they were getting big/going shit but don’t think he was any less attractive than his replacement so he must have just objected to the ‘going shit’ tactic.

The keyboard player who looked a good ten years older than the rest of them seems to have left more recently but far too late for it to have been any sort of marketing move, think he just left. Not sure about anyone else.

Worth noting that the despite the cynical move from half decent indie band to bland radio schmaltz, Lightbody does seem like a genuinely lovely fella and makes an effort to promote new NI bands and stuff.

Also donated a load of his old CDs to Good Vibrations when it was still open (I bought a Clinic and an Avalanches album off him)

isn’t it also the combination of lay/lie that’s used in this chorus?

like i’m gonna lay, but how bout you go and lie

Probably would have been bang into ‘em back in the day, that’s one I dodged
