Been working on generating music live from games of chess because I’m cool like that.

Each piece type is mapped to a midi instrument. File determines when they play in a bar (1/8 of each bar) and rank determines the pitch. First 8 moves set the 8 available notes based on how far each piece moves. Midi gets generated after each move. Then a little interface for the chess.
All built in Supercollider which is like a DAW but entirely code based. Gonna do a live game soon at a local eletronica night.

This is amazing and wonderful! Do you have examples of what any other games sound like?
It would be cool if the music was effectively playing as white or black, and the further their position improved / worsened, the more the music would sound positive / depressing or something like that. I don’t know anything about music, but love this idea

Done a whole album of various classic games which will be out at some point inthe future.
Here’s the Opera Game from an earlier version which relied on a pgn file in advance rather than doing it all live.

Doing a live chess music thing tonight for the first time at an electronica night in Leeds. Got a 15 min slot so I’m going to play the organiser with 7 mins each on the clock and see what happens.
