Christmas Special - List your Top 5 James Bond Theme songs.

I have lived out of the UK for many years, and don’t know “Adam and Joe” but have just seen that Joe Cornish is responsible for Attack the Block, which was a terrific film, and am tempted to waste the rest of the day on watching back episodes of this show. Great stuff.

Ah! They did a very very silly TV show back in the 90s, which is a bit dated but good fun. They then did radio for several years and you can still find their podcasts. That Bond song is from their 6music podcast

These days we all need a good dose of silly, I reckon. To counteract the rank stupidity of most of our politicians ….

Chris Cornell - You Know My Name - 5 points
Gladys Knight - Licence To Kill - 4 points
Tina Turner - GoldenEye - 3 points
Paul McCartney & Wings - Live and Let Die - 2 points
Shirley Bassey - Diamonds Are Forever - 1 point

I know my top pick will get slept on (even though it’s utterly brilliant) but I am astonished that Gladys Knight hasn’t featured on a single list so far.

My shadow 5, because there’s always 5 more you could have picked:

Shirley Bassey - Goldfinger
Louis Armstrong - We Have All The Time in the World
Nancy Sinatra - You Only Live Twice
Sheena Easton - For Your Eyes Only
Carly Simon - Nobody Does It Better

  1. John Barry & Orchestra, Monty Norman - James Bond Theme (1962)

  3. Louis Armstrong - We Have All The Time in the World (1969)
  4. Shirley Bassey - Goldfinger (1964)

‘You Only Live Twice’ - 5 points.

That’s it, that’s the post.

There’s a Radiohead cover of Nobody Does It Better out there, I’d hunt it out, if you have the time, as it really brings the song to life.

I guess we’re talking about theme songs rather than film scores, but I always loved Eric Serra’s score for GoldenEye (although I’m probably in the minority here as it seemed to be widely panned by critics if I remember rightly).
