Christmas in my family is so regimented but I love it.
Christmas Eve - do it like the Latins and dress up nice for a three-course meal at home, open a couple of presents, drink until just after midnight.
Christmas Day - do it like the Brits and sit around in our pyjamas opening presents but verrryyyy sllloooooowwwllyyyy* until dinner at 2 on the dot, after which the over 40s fall asleep and the under 40s clear and tidy until pud/turkey sandwich time, then my mum drunkenly calls all the relatives.
*Under my mum’s orders. One time we still had presents to open on NYE, that was a fucking tedious year.
i doubt anyone has to have it at exactly 2:15 or whatever, but i know some people have to have it before / after the queen’s speech or something like that
I put tedious cause I have to split my day between two families (mine and my bfs - 40 min drive apart) which is always a chore
And my bfs family (which I go to in the evening) spend ALL DAY sitting up the table
I wanna go sit on the sofa of an evening but that’s not a thing
We have a working towards time, as it’s after lunch that we open ‘family’ presents - as opposed to Santa ones which are first thing. this takes hours, as does lunch, so it needs to be at a fairly set time - normally 2.30ish
This year we are going up to my Aunt’s at some point which is a 90 minute drive, so having to factor that in as well.
We have the morning at one house and then dinner + rest of the day at the other. This year we begin at my parents and then head across to the in laws later.
