19th fly home
29th fly back

Sunday 17th: driving to Margate and back. It’s fine, only an hour each way.

That’s the longest journey I’ll have to do this year.

23rd - Train from Sheffield to Oxenholme Lake District then taxi transfer (aka my dad’s giving me a lift) to the Cottage we’ve rented for Christmas. Have seats booked so hopefully pretty #fafffree

31st - Train from Lancaster to Sheffield - Trains booked etc. and specifically asked for very little in the way of Christmas presents so I don’t have to cart them home.

Hoping it’ll be a relatively painless journey but am assuming it’ll be horrendous.

20th Manchester to Darlington - Train with a 4 year old
22nd Darlington to Manchester - As above, but with parents in tow.

Don’t seem to be able to book a seat for a child under 5 without paying for another ticket. Assuming it’ll be fine, right?

26th Manchester to Bromsgrove - Car with a 4 year old and a 2 year old
28th Bromsgrove to Manchester - As above

Both are guaranteed to start asking how much further it is within 10 minutes of setting off! Looking forward to the traditional stop at the services on the way back for whatever festive burger McDonalds have on.

22nd: London to Liverpool
2nd: Liverpool to London

Both by train. Nice and relaxed compared to flying to LA each of the last two years to visit the in-laws.

24th Glasgow west end to Glasgow south side
27th Glasgow south side to Glasgow west end

I’m not going anywhere. Fucking yes.

Probably go and volunteer somewhere Christmas day then come back home. 2 mile round trip. Cheers

Ok I booked my flights and it was only maybe 25% more expensive than I was braced for.

Xmas day - 12pm drive north London to Essex
Xmas day - 6pm drive back to north London

Got to do it on my own. It’s only 45mins each way but still BORING

This is also my answer

Driving a hire car from Kennington to Wales tomorrow. Bricking it slightly because I haven’t driven for like five years, and only ever once in London. According to the route, I think there’s only like eight turns or something before getting on the M4, so I’ll be fine if I can get that far… just dreading getting caught in a one way system or something. It’ll be fine, right?

25th Wimbledon to Southend
26th Southend to Wimbledon

Don’t really enjoy driving, but we have a new car so a least we have more than 5 cassettes to keep us entertained. Should only take 90mins but I’m mildly concerned about the fact that my son is in the early stages of no longer wearing a nappy, so dreading the inevitable request to stop for a poo.

(He’s 26 years old etc).

I quite miss Southend, but don’t think I’ve any family left there that I’ve spoken with in the last 15 years, let alone visited.

Done the obligatory SE London - Gatwick - Inverness this evening and am now entertaining myself by feeding my mum too many gun and tonics. Other way on Boxing Day with added Essex visit.
