Lots of protests this week. Off to have a look at the Cardiff one at lunchtime.

"This has affected people on low incomes the most as there are no more houses available for them. Also there are some businesses who have not yet managed to reopen, maybe they never will.

"To me this is an issue about my children’s future but also about equality, it is always the poorest people who suffer most from climate-related disasters.

“I want the government to do something about it now, not wait for more disasters and more people to suffer.”

Looks like some folks are getting nervous

The interview on Radio 4 this morning was funny, but instructive, in terms of seeing the resistance to progress that will materialise

The report’s author sounds like a lovely guy

Oh yes, jokes aside I actually think they’re trying to set the stage for the kind of state repression that they think will be necessary in the future.

Gonna pop down to the Bristol one this eve, Beak> are playing.

Bristol Post did an article where they clearly were setting up to have businesses whinging about all the bad effects it was having on them, but it went a bit wrong when all but one basically said it was great.

This might only be a very minor good thing, but I work for a government agency and we’ve just been told we have to refer to ‘the climate emergency’ rather than ‘climate change’. Bullshit terminology, but at least it emphasises how fucked it is.

I prefer “climate change for the worse”.

Aye, think Extinction Rebellion really is changing the discourse in this country and challenging the idea that ignoring the existence of climate change is the most electable position for a politician

Yes they’ve moved onto “not ignoring it, but not doing anything about it” now.

I was only half listening to this and assumed he was still a copper. Wouldn’t put what he said beyond the Met, but the fact he’s disgraced and will say anything for cash makes more sense. They will be rolling out his ilk regularly I imagine.

Ok should we all just retreat to the Scottish Highlands and exist via substinace farming?

Sort of related but this is quite a decent critique of XR

I still think the movement overall is a good thing but there’s some really important strategic/political considerations that this piece raises which they should probably take on board.

Greta Thunberg and her Fridays for Future movement wrote an open letter to all the Swedish unions yesterday urging them to take all their members out on a General Strike on September 27th

it’ll be interesting to see the response
