Club Football Returns! Football Thread

#141

Out of solidarity with our brave lion cubs, I believe @aggpass and @profk should use this thread behind closed doors tonight. No regulars or lurkers allowed back in until Saturday

  • Real
  • Bayern
  • Tottenham (after Poch goes to Real/Man U)
  • Barca
  • Atleti
  • PSG
  • Juve
  • Inter

I’m in a poll-y mood. Okay, so for these ones, pick the 3 clubs you have a spot for in the 4 big European leagues (excluding the PL). Trying to get a consensus of the most universally liked clubs. If your from one of these countries maybe abstain from voting.

@Aggpass always torn on Athletic, tbh. Can’t tell if they’re admirable or a bit problematic?

#150

ahem.

#151

Probably a bit of both.

Most of my votes are based on familial links, nice kits and a couple of good players in my formative years rather than politics.

Athletic are mainly there for that joyous europa league tie against United a few years ago

Athletic Bilbao are great. shoot themselves in the foot a bit when it comes to recruitment, but they’re fantastic for the region because they pour so much into youth, have a great stadium, great fans, and have had lots of success in the past.

Nobody has strong feelings about any French club beyond generalised antagonistic ones towards PSG. Stop lying.

Bordeaux - lovely kit
Lyon - enjoyable outsiders for the champos during the mid 00s

Had to draw the line somewhere, so I chose top flight teams. Would have picked Depor instead of Atleti if I gave myself the option.

Enjoyed Bordeaux winning the league to wrestle it off Lyon about 10 years ago.

When discussing foreign clubs

  • Pure brexit pronunciations all round
  • Hammy foreign accent. Dates and numbers in the language of the club
  • Somewhere in the middle
