butlins music

I used to work with a guy who liked rock – like Deftones, Black Spiders, Samsara Blues Experiment, Pantera, etc. But then it became clear he was a Trump-supporting Brexit Tory wanker so we no longer talk.

You mean ATP?

yeah

Holy Bible > Everything Must Go > This Is My Truth > Futurology > Journal > Know Your Enemy > Gold Against The Soul > Generation Terrorists > the other shit

actually yeah, know your enemy is way better than this is my truth, gold, gen terrorists etc

This thread has spookily come to life. In the tea/coffee area just now, I just ended up chatting with a guy from another department who was wearing a Slint t-shirt. And it turns out that we have a non-work friend in common. The Slint guy is originally from Portugal so I asked him about some Portuguese bands, one of whom are friends of mine and also, it turns out, friends of his.

It’s probably higher than I’ve given it credit for. There are a few absolute bangers on there.

guy sat opposite me is really into music and is clearly desperate to chat about it with somebody, anybody. whenever he tries with me I immediately shut that shit down because I’m a terrible person and find it funny, even though it would probs be quite an enjoyable chat

i’m gonna give this is my truth a listen now. not heard it in years. was my first manics album but always thought it a slog

love born a girl tho

Boy that sits next to me likes Leann Rimes. Fair enough but that seems to be all he likes. He’s in his 50’s

The Everlasting is a bit gorgeous.

just remembered my last office where if they used the speakers, it was ALWAYS the best of the chilli’s

ffs

really enjoying this album

love that odd wee organ sound at the start of ready for drowning

of the ones i mainly associate with, one likes a mixture of good DiS-friendly stuff like Future of the Left and Radiohead, and very bad emo or hard rock stuff, or Frank Turner.

another is mostly into stuff like The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, The Stone Roses, Oasis, The La’s etc but we have a bit of crossover on stuff like Joy Division, The Smiths, Television, Nirvana

the other is a big Guns n Roses fan and i think is largely into stuff of that ilk but also likes Neil Young and stuff and will occasionally surprise me a bit with something he’s checked out, like the other day when he asked if i’d heard the new Mt. Eerie

also i often see my manager’s manager wearing a Boards of Canada t-shirt but i haven’t managed to strike up a conversation about it yet

Last place I worked was great, very varied tastes but everyone took turns making playlists for the Sonos system and put a lot of thought into it. Most people properly loved their music so always lots of good stuff on.

I kept sneaking You Suffer by Napalm Death into the middle of other people’s playlists where I could. Someone else kept doing that with Kuntz by Butthole Surfers. Lots of fun.
