I have been doing the swirl but can’t get that last bit off the side yet, might let it sit too long at some earlier stage so it sticks? Shall experiment

So far used James Hoffman’s one from his video, which was 30g coffee to 500g water, 60g bloom for 45 seconds, 300g water total by 1:15, 500g total by 1:45, stir, swirl, draw down. Might try a different one out tomorrow just to see but probably need to dial in the grind setting perfectly as well.

On my Wilfa I’ve been using either the A of Aeropress or the dot one step courser than that, before you hit the R of Filter. Any other Wilfa V60 users with advice on grind setting would be v welcome

Try adding a bit more water to the bloom and swirl then too. Stir after the second lot of water and then swirl after the last of the water has gone in. Grind size is so difficult to get right. It’s different for different coffee.

Finally got my grinder…you were very, very right. Dad got me some posh beans too. My 10am coffee just got about ten times better. Cheers :coffee: :coffee:

question: im trying to buy some ground espresso (not beans) to see if it tastes much difference and its worth either upgrading my espresso machine and/or grinder.

why do none of the local roasters (lol) seem to offer espresso grind as an option?

everything is v60/aeropress/moka/french press etc, but no espresso.

if can you can into a local shop (that roasts/is affiliated with a local roaster) they should be able to grind to your preference there and then? Dunno how practical this would be for you!

i can do, yeah, local shop is only round the corner :slightly_smiling_face:. Iwas wanting to try from somewhere new a bit further away though

Sounds odd. I’m sure most places I buy from offer espresso grind.

If your roasters are also a cafe, then surely they’re grinding to espresso for pretty much everything aren’t they?

I’d be careful — I’ve got a non-fancy machine (~£150) and a non-fancy grinder (~£60) if I grind my beans on the finest setting I can, it works great. But if I get espresso ground from my local fancy coffee place, it’s too fine, and my machine just really struggles to push the water through.

Not sure if I was just unlucky, but I’ve not done that since!

my normal roasters do yeah, i wanted to try another one.

@schadenfreude my machine is similar price and has a pressurised basket with a tiny hole for the coffee to come through, fairly sure if I tried with fine espresso i’d have the same problem.

i bought a non pressured basket with loads of holes, but my grinder doesnt grind fine enough to properly draw a shot through that, hence searching for ground espresso to test it. :nerd_face:

It’s very much not coffeesplaining, I’d never heard of pressurised/non-pressurised baskets!

apparently it makes a difference!! who knows why or what though (coffee wankers, thats who)

I believe proper CWs would poor scorn on the pressurized basket - it’s essentially “cheating” so you don’t need properly fine ground coffee (i think?) - i have a slightly more expensive espresso machine (well, at RRP it would be) which came with both types of basket. Never used the pressurized basket as my grinder is a good’un!

That’s more of a fancy Kahlua replacement, but worth considering too. Might get one myself tbh
