Married with Children is just a blatant rip-off of Nirvana’s Lithium in different key

Changed my answer to Oasis.

What the hell was I thinking?

i like oasis, so oasis

Also, the main riff from The Hindu Times is note-for-note identical to the riff from Same Size Feet by Stereophonics.

Yeah, this sort of thing happens all the time. Coldplay too are guilty - Talk doesn’t really count, as it was explicitly signposted as a tribute to Kraftwerk - but then you get Speed of Sound and its striking similarities to Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill.

The thing is, Coldplay never claimed to be the voice of a generation, or the most important band in history. Oasis, with all their bluster, are surely eligible for closer scrutiny. And they just don’t deliver. At all.

Team Coldplay, all the way.

Amazed this thread hasn’t yet breached 100 replies, it feels like it’s been going on forever.

I’ll take “didn’t live up to all the bluster” over “the band who wrote Yellow.”

But… look at the stars!

oasis had some great songs though, all jokes aside. if you figured out the sequencing properly there’s an amazing album with these little beauties:

d’you know what i mean
gas panic
wonderwall (fuck you it’s great)
supersonic
married with children
slide away
listen up
go let it out
talk tonight
whatever
half the world away

And at their height they could waste things like Acquiesce as B-sides.

yeah! in fact just realised a few of those were b-sides and ‘whatever’ (whatever!) was a one-off single.

They definitely had potential for another great studio album under their belt, unfortunately they pissed it all away on B-sides.

Probably wouldn’t have been the ‘Sgt. Peppers of the 90s’ that everyone hoped for, but probably would’ve been decent.

Yellow is basically the middle of Fake Plastic Trees with different singing also I think its more likely both Hindu Times and Same Size Feet ripped off Does Your Mother Know. The whole Coldplay/Travis new acoustic movement scene was a by-product from the success of Wonderwall so Coldplay sort of owe their career to Oasis.
