If the two bands ever collaborated and got Matt Cardell and various members of Toploader on board, they could call the resultant supergroup Comatosis.

Bit laboured but worth it in the end

If anything, surely it matters a heck of a lot on a place like DiS, where everyone subconsciously seems to try to out-indie everyone else (I don’t know if that’s true but that’s the impression I get of this place sometimes, or at least of what this place used to be like) - in a lighthearted way that isn’t to be taken too seriously of course.

Someone who whiffs bell-tips.

Coldplay arnt a Radiohead rip off, they are a Travis rip off

Noel’s hilarious. don’t listen to any of his solo stuff but i’m always pleased when a new interview surfaces. fantastic wind up merchant, funny as fuck.

i think Coldplay have quite a few decent songs spread out across the first 3 or 4 albums, but their attempts to move into ‘party band’ territory on the last few has been unforgivable really, like some boring old dads trying to be cool. i know we all talked about their Glastonbury set last year being quite fun and all but they mainly just played terrible songs didn’t they? remember really enjoying their 2005 set on TV and i feel like i’d enjoy it just as much if i watched it back now, probably - the X&Y stuff sounded pretty good live. i always thought they were like a band who want to be Radiohead but don’t quite have the guts, so they come out with these little minor reinventions with every album but still largely sound the same reliably radio-friendly band, as if they want to try new things but are too afraid to really commit. if they break up i’d like to see the guitarist join a decent band cos he’s quite good and inventive when he wants to be isn’t he?

i was a massive Oasis fan at 13 and i sort of rediscovered them recently when talking to a friend from mainland Europe about them, where they don’t really carry that ubiquity or LAD following and are just another band really. made me go back and listen and realise how many great songs they had, particularly on the Masterplan which had always been my favourite at the time even though it’s a B-sides album. then i remembered Stewart Lee saying the same thing in an interview a while back, about becoming less of an indie snob as he gets older and getting really into Oasis suddenly. “it’s ridiculous not to like Oasis”. even the last couple of albums have some good stuff on there, compared to the couple before. i still remember pretending that Shock Of The Lightning was shit when it came out even though i really quite liked it.

rarely stick on anything by either band but maybe i should a bit more often.

His solo stuff is wank. Most of my mates jizz over anything he breathes on. Boring as fuck

Anyone ever tried actually sitting through a Coldplay live performance?
Genuinely can’t fathom it.

FAKE NEWS

I can barely imagine sitting through an entire album, to be honest.

I liked it better when we were all on the same page that Coldplay was terrible. They’re going through some sort of re-evaluation lately that’s obnoxious at least in the sense of “You guys should really check out Coldplay’s first 2 albums if you think they suck” is a common retort. Yes, we have heard their most popular albums

Oasis cover of I Am The Walrus on Jools might be my favourite cover ever. Such a brilliant version

tbf I don’t think is really obnoxious in the same way as the ‘just good pop’ brigade tend to be, I get the sense it’s mostly people who always quite liked some of their stuff but have generally kept quiet about for a long time due to the ridicule. do think there are a couple of good album tracks on those records, although I’d never feel the need to convince someone to listen to them myself, tbf

Tell that to Pitchfork

it’s more that it’s coupled with a “their most recent shitty pop albums are awful, but their totally obscure and their not at all best selling albums are much better.” As if the dislike of Coldplay is at all a new thing. All I can think of is “Motherfucker, if you think the album with goddamn ‘Yellow’ is going to win me over
”

I’ve sat through one live performance, and stood through four.

Love them so much. Can’t fathom why people feel they need to make it known how much they hate them. Just move on, it’s fine. Lots of great music out there. Let people enjoy what they will.

I would if I could.

I think anything that sells that much but provides so little deserves some sort of scrutiny, and besides it’s a comparison thread on a music discussion board so I’d imagine this is the perfect place to voice such an opinion.

No, you’re right. Nothing’s exempt from scrutiny, and this is the perfect place to scrutinise.

I just dislike it when people stop criticising bands and start criticising their fans - which your comment came very, very close to doing.

Apologies. As you were.

imagine hating Noel Gallagher

Might be nostalgia-talk, but Viva la Vida is a half-decent album.

I wish I could say the same of X&Y, admittedly it has some brilliant moments but it misses the mark slightly.
