Comedy series you're watching (rolling)

Lot of them out there at the minute isn’t there? Let’s use this to say what you’re currently watching, old or new, and whether it’s worth it

Just started Black Ops on iPlayer. Comedy-drama (but leans much more into the former) about two PCSOs who are hired to go undercover into a drug-dealing gang. Quite similar to The Outlaws in that it mixes a crime drama and comedy but its a lot broader in its humour than that. It’s a bit over the top at times and the amount of jokes it tries means they don’t always land but it’s got some good laughs and performances. Worth a watch (so far, not seen them all yet)

Watched Black Ops in one sitting last week. Good fun.

Got a couple of episodes of Black Ops left, decent fun. Surprisingly little Joanna Scanlan so far though.

Finished Colin From Accounts before that, mostly enjoyed save for a couple of hmmm moments (those wacky gen Zers eh).

I’ve been rewatching Community - it’s been years now and I never finished the last season, and with the movie finally off the starting block it felt like the time. It takes a little while to get going but the stretch through from the middle of season 1 to the end of 2 is way more hits than not, even if Ken Jeong sticking around is as pointless as I remember, they really did not know what to do with him.

Also started rewatching Daria. Great stuff, exactly as I remember from the last time I watched all of it (about 2010) and from the mid 1990s when I’d catch it on MTV.

just reaching the end of S4 on my rewatch of schitts creek, starting S4 on my rewatch of curb, and end of S2 on my rewatch of arrested development

Catastrophe. Started last night. Had seen bits of it previously but not the whole thing.

Think episode 1 is probably one of the strongest opening eps to a comedy series I’ve seen. Up there with the first ep of Arrested Development.

Think there’s a new series of Somebody Somewhere so I’ll watch that

Party Down

Is this good

Yes

Yep rewatching this, got two episodes to go. You’re right, the opener is stunningly strong.

Have enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Rob and Sharon’s chemistry is obscene.

Halfway through rewatching HIMYM as a background show while I play my Switch.

It’s aged badly. So much of the basic set up is good (decent cast, clever call backs, smartly contrived episode structures) but some of the jokes are… oof. Even if you’re willing to overlook the fact that Barney is basically a sex criminal and is consistently validated for it (and you have to to watch it at all) there are quite a few slurs and stuff that make you cringe.

Just finished Wellmania, had its moments but just ok really

Finished Jury Duty last night. Strong start, lull in the middle, decent enough end.

We’re about half way through Colin From Accounts. Fairly light and breezy, good dynamic from the leads, it’s not particularly funny though. 10/10 for Border Terrier

Abbott Elementary on Disney Plus. Would recommend to fans of Parks and Rec and other similar mockumentaries, set at a Philadelphia public school.

Also dipped into AP Bio starring Dennis from IASIP and Mr Mayor with Ted Danson on NowTV. Both eh, not really fussed about watching more.

I liked what I saw of Digman! (not a superhero) more than most other adult animation, which means I think it’s alright. It’s very manic, even for me, and has the self-awareness that it’s a TV show thats more than a little annoying. Dependent on how much you like Andy Samberg’s shtick.

Recently enjoyed Colin from Accounts and Jury Duty very much.

Currently watching Not Dead Yet on Disney+.
Gina Rodriguez plays an obituary writer for a small newspaper and sees each of the subjects she is writing about. Kind of like Ghosts except the ghosts change each week.
Rodriguez is not a very subtle performer but she is very likeable. Hannah Simone brings a bit of class.
So far it has made me half chuckle once. Episode 3 I think.

However, there are some nice tender moments. It’s basically one of those glossy and undemanding, designed-by-committee shows which is perfect if you’ve got a cold and feel a bit like crap.

Ronald is soooooo nice

I’ve been meaning to rewatch Community as well, also didn’t finish the last season. As I recall it came late and on a different network? I might not have had access to it initially and then lost interest. Don’t think I realized there was a movie in the works…not sure how I feel about that.

The last season was an exclusive to Yahoo’s streaming service (things nobody has thought about etc), I think over here it was only on some minor Sky channel.

I’m cautiously optimistic about the movie cause it’s been a few years, it doesn’t seem like an obligation, and Glover is back. It’s going straight to Peacock in the US as well, which seems like the opportunity to be dead weird with it.

Probably would be a flop without Glover being involved, so happy about that.

South Side - Some really great characters, some really great episodes, but unfortunately some duds as well.

Frasier - revisiting these, although I never watched the entire series in the past. Just whenever it was on, back in those days. We started to rewatch Cheers first but stopped after a handful of seasons, there’s just too much and we got bored.

Dave - new season is good so far, redeeming itself after a weaker season 2.

Beef - couple episodes in, really enjoying this.

Arrested Development - I started rewatching this in March because it was supposed to come off Netflix, then they changed their minds. Still watching here and there when I want something on and can’t decide. I actually didn’t watch it for the first time until around 2011-2012. Come to think of it, I’m not sure I finished the last season. Maybe I should continue the rewatch. Oh another thing is that when I initially watched the first 3 seasons I kept skipping the “on the next…” bits at the end because I hate spoilers, not realizing those weren’t spoilers.

Disney + didn’t have Dave season 3 when I last checked, which was annoying.
