Ooh, no I didn’t. Is/was it good?

I tend to stay away from superhero stuff unless it’s strongly recommended (and preferably stands alone from endless crossover bollocks), with the only exception being Thor because I just love Thor. So, Hawkeye, Mister Miracle, Young Avengers, etc.

Yeah, I’m much the same!

Picked it up cos it was Kelly Thompson again and she basically used it as a continuation of her Hawkeye / Kate Bishop series.

It got cancelled after 10 issues (classic), and I still need to pick up the second trade to see how it ends. but if you liked that series it’s basically the same kinda thing.

Oh and the new Hawkeye run starts in January and Matthew Rosenberg is writing. I loved, loved, loved his WE CAN NEVER GO HOME and especially 4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK, so this is intriguing!

And Donny Cates is taking over Thor. His GHOST FLEET and GOD COUNTRY were both amazing.

Ooh, didn’t know about this - will keep an eye out, thanks.

What’s the longest (ie furthest into the future) game of Football Manager officially recognised by your company?

Is that Marvel or DC?

I hope someone gets fired for this blunder.

Me too.

You’re fired!

333 Seasons

finally finished paper girls, sadly it just never comes together does it

the whole teenager/old-timers division doesn’t make much sense on the cosmic timescale it plays out over, and they never really explore what the teenagers want to change about history, and the end where they have a truce by giving up on time travel didnt make any sense, isn’t that much more of a loss for the teenagers than the old timers?

just really disappointing, guess I enjoyed it along the way

Yeah the ending was alright but a bit of a let down given the strength of it up to then. Shame!

Thanks to a Waterstones voucher, a massive sale at Travelling Man, and a relocation sale at FP Glasgow, I’ve ended up buying all the following in, uh, the last two weeks

The stuff I got from Waterstones (My Heroes… and The Weatherman v1) was full price but I think the most any of the others cost me was £7. Travelling Man sale was particularly amazing, 25% and 50% off loads of stuff, then they just starting taking a further 20% off that reduced price. So stuff priced at £14.99 was actually £6. Ridiculous.

Anyway I’m in the middle of rereading Watchmen thanks to the TV show, so I dunno when I’ll even get to any of this :no_mouth:

Not really sure why I’ve never read it - the original Phonogram is one of the few things I’ve bought in singles cos I was in the US and kept seeing the issues and thinking “what’s with all the britpop album covers?!?”

But for no reason I never picked up either this or Singles Club (which I got about 18 months ago) until much later. Excited to look at some lovely McKelvie / Wilson artwork again anyway.

I loved it!

There’s one scene in particular though that is… well… just brutal.

For me Phonogram gets better with each volume. First one is obviously really good but I’m reading it like “what is this ‘Britpop’ they speak of?” and have to Google a lot. It’s really crazy to see how fully formed Kieron and Jamie both arrived in the industry, people who’ve been working regularly for decades don’t come out with stuff that ambitious and well executed. It’s the sort of fresh take and enthusiasm you get with self published work from new creators but done with such clear skill.

The Immaterial Girl is great because it’s drawn by McKelvie firmly into his GOAT phase, so he’s putting out work at the same level of Young Avengers and WicDiv. It looks absolutely phenomenal. The writing is quite a bit better than the other two as well, the characters feel a lot more real, and the magical stuff is all a lot more effective as well. I’ve not read it in a couple of years, might do so again soon, but my last read was the full hardcover of all three and I was really struck by how much it levels up with each volume.

I got the 5th (and final written by G Willow Wilson :sob:) hardcover of Ms Marvel for Christmas, decided I’d have a jaunt through the previous ones again before reading it and oh my god this series is so incredible. I think it’s one of my favourite things Marvel have ever published. Like I’m always picking up Simonson’s Thor and reading bits of it, just at a few times a month I’ll crack open the omnibus at a random issue and read whatever it is I’ve opened on because it’s so perfect and joyous, and I really think Ms Marvel is on that kind of level.
