Commuting

Cycle 2 Work. It’s only about 3.5 miles of flat, reasonably cycle-friendly roads. Takes about 15 mins. Can’t imagine accepting a job that I had to commute to by car. Can’t believe the majority of people (outside London?) drive to/from work. It’s so shit. Cars are fucking bell-ends.

Mostly home working. When I do have to travel it’s an invariable nightmare. 90 minutes two weeks ago to drive 8 miles. Public transport would have meant going into and coming back out of London so no quicker. Rubbish.

train + tram, more than an hour in total
don’t mind it that much in the morning but after work it’s a struggle

15 min walk, 25 min train where I always get a seat, 15 more mins walk, at work in time to get a coffee + breakfast before I start. Would take that over shit driving any day. Although the dream would obviously be living an hour’s walk away; 2 hours of walking every day plus guaranteed 2 albums listening (also usually listen to about 3 in work, but it’s as background music with loads of interruptions).

30 miles each way (can cut it down to 25 at weekends when cutting through the centre of Brum is an option). On a normal day it takes about 45-50 minutes each way, but can do it in 30-35 when it’s quiet. Has been probably 2 or 3 days (out of 2 years) where it’s taken like 90 minutes to get home.

It’s tolerable - wouldn’t say I hate it (normally), but it’s not fantastic either. Roll on getting a job a lot closer/moving closer to work at some point in the future.

5 minute cycle or a 15 minute walk for me

it’s pretty sweet

I was outside the big decathlon in Surrey Quays the other evening and thought about going in.

Where you walking to s_a_d?

Vicar at St Luke’s Church?

Currently varies between:

5 min walk - 30 min train - wait x mins for a 5 min bus
30 min cycle - 20 min train - 5 min cycle

Occasionally* do a 70-80 min cycle the whole way to work, getting the train home.

*Once.

Just got back from work stuff. This is happening.

Damn straight. I had to drive from Brixton to Penge at about 7:30am of a morning this week to deliver a car and the traffic was absolutely bonkers busy. I was like WHAT ARE YOU ALL DOING?? YOU CAN’T ALL BE DELIVERING CARS. STOP DRIVING.
