Is sailing the shittest Olympic? Really hard to figure out who’s actually won.

Definitely a footers related trip, Jezza. NQAT

I went to the Modern Pentathlon in 2012. That was properly shite.

How do you feel about practical sailing i.e. from A to B

Again, not for me.

Naval battle re-enactments?

That’s the sort of thing my Dad would be dead into which makes me kind of worry that one day I might be dead into it as well

I guess if you’re a quite famous round the world sailor you get to call photgraphers what you like.

In the summer I sit at my window and watch the yachts racing every evening. It’s the most soothing thing in the world. Sailing is amazing.

You’re forgetting Horse Dancing.

When you say you sit “at your window”, can I ask if you’re on a seat or on the windowsill itself?

I don’t even know if it exists to be honest. Sounds like it would be pretty fucking expensive and impractical, and unless it was very very fucking dangerous probably pretty boring to watch

Maybe they could do it in CGI?

would you be into it if they did?

Nah, sounds boring as shit mate.

I’ve done a bit of dinghy sailing and it’s great fun. It’s a great mix of physical workout and learning a bit of theory, with the option to do it either recreationally or competitively.

I think the image of sailing is tainted somewhat by yacht sailing which obviously can be quite expensive and elitist, but dinghy sailing can be done relatively cheaply (the club I was at charged £90 annual membership which included free use of the club’s boats). Also dinghy sailing tends to attract roughly equal members of men and women as well as a sizeable proportion of young people. There’s something very… humble and rootsy about it that I think would appeal to some people on here.

A lot of clubs will be holding a Push the Boat Out day this month where members of the public can go along and give it a go.
