The Tom Petty documentary Running Down a Dream is really good. Very long, but very engaging.

If you want a semi-surreal musical journey into the American Gothic accompanied by Jim White, Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus is extraordinary. Like a musical, non-violent version of the first series of True Detective.

Second also Dig and Some Kind of Monster.

The Ramones documentary is very good. Great band, good story, told well.

This was billed as the real life Spinal Tap but it’s both much sadder and much more uplifting.

Been working through the trilogy of Decline of Western Civilisation docs. The first deals with the late 70s / early 80s LA punk scene and just features performances and interviews with bands & fans - just has some really footage and insights from Germs, X and the early Black Flag line up.

The metal years one is a bit more flashy and the culture is totally toxic but there’s still some brilliant moments with Lemmy and Ozzy.

Hoping to watch the 90s skate punk one soon

Oh wow didn’t realise these were on YouTube. I’ve only seen the metal one and that was a very long time ago

I’m not sure if it is what you are looking for but I really enjoyed Searching For Sugar Man. Not a major star but a great story really well told. Believe it is on Amazon Prime.

Has any watched Creation Stories yet? Heard ‘mixed’ reports.

Depeche Mode- 101. Shows the build up to a big show in the US, the band and the fans. If you have ever done a big road trip with your friends to a special show the fan bits really capture the feel of it.

Came here just now to say 101. Keep meaning to rewatch it myself actually. On the Depeche Mode theme, Jeremy Deller’s film about Depeche Mode fans around the world is brilliant and really heartwarming, and free to stream:

Yes, I’ve seen that, really liked it.

Thought it was shit.

Hmm, that has been one of the reviews I’ve seen. Will probably watch this week, the trailers didn’t look promising at all, but some decent music at least?

Would say that they are well worth a watch, just for a snapshot into those counter cultures.

There’s some really intense performances in the punk one then a bunch of really wild and sad interviews in the metal one with Aerosmith and Chris Holmes from WASP.

Is it the Wasp guy who’s floating in his pool with his mum sitting on the side?

Another great doc and their classic album is 30 today

Yep that’s the one. Just looked like he really needed help. Very bleak indeed.

Saw the metal one not that long ago and have been on the look out for the others - thanks.

I always thought it was a sort of real life Spinal Tap film but it’s actually a really interesting exploration of teenage sub cultures isn’t it. Great film.

Agree with this. Everyone is very honest in the film and the relationship (or lack of) between Joey and Johnny is extraordinary.
