I like the current format and prefer it to a timed version with unlimited guesses. Forces you to take a step back and consider all potential groups before diving in. Not too dissimilar to how in Only Connect you only get 3 chances to identify the final two groups.
Another enjoyable one today. So many red herrings that it rewarded finding connections with no red herrings or figuring out the entire wall before a first attempt.
Connections is slowly becoming my favourite daily puzzle.
Getting irked by the phrase āred herringā. The correct terminology is surely āherring which could validly be either purple or yellowā.

for is not a homophone of four.
Homophone.com disagrees with you.
Escutcheon v Big Homophone is not what i expected at this time on a Wednesday.
they donāt sound the same though. right? thatās the definition? fore/four, yep, for/four nope, not in every english dialect.
Well no, probs not, but iām struggling to think of any where they donāt sound the same. Almost certainly my lack of worldliness, though.
Cornish? Ask @Funkhouser
Iād say won and one is quite distinct in certain English accents
Not disagreeing with you, but I canāt hear in my head how for and four are potentially different
Is there a rolled ārā ?
yeah, up here in the North those two sound veeery distinct in most places
well, forward and foreword donāt sound the same, so why would for and fore?
