@Scagden made me do it

Talk about CST. Optional questions and prompts:
Top five artists
Favourite one-and-done band (they can have more than one album but only one on CST)
Best artwork?
Nostalgia of when the exchange rate was so good you could order CDs from their webshop for less than seven quid each, delivery factored in
I have been bad and not listened to any of the newer releases, anyone heard them yet?

Yes I know you all love GY!BE and they’re great and all but maybe lets talk some more about the others here. Indienpoints actually on offer for being more obscure to appreciate the lesser known things here

Will throw a nickel in the ring for Vic Chesnutt, one of the most beautiful and raw song writers of a generation.
At the Cut is a 10/10 in my honest opinion.

Forever sad my CST lightbulb birdcage t-shirt got lost in escaping from my ex, that was an excellent t-shirt

One of my favourite songs of all time, absolutely not the most representative Sparo but it is so beautifully unhinged in all the best ways

Hooray! So glad you made the thread

So hard to decide favourites as there are so many of them to consider…

I would like to share my nostalgia for when I used to teach in Canterbury in 2000/2001 and I would walk into the City centre on my Fri lunch break and always pick up at least one Constellation CD (in the lovely cardboard packages - I’ve got rid of so many CDs recently but they were one label where the CD actually felt worth owning rather than the £15 for a jewel case with half the teeth in the middle already broken).

Sometimes I would buy CDs of bands I’d never heard a note of just because they were on CST and that was such a sign of quality. Off the top of my head:

Hangedup
Hrstra
Do Make Say Think
Godspeed
Silver Mt Zion
Exhaust

Not to mention all the related bands/projects like Set Fire to Flames and Molasses that were on Alien8

Molasses were great, also 10/10 packaging on all their releases (I handle the outer envelope of A Slow Messe like it is a sacred relic)

think they released my 2 favourite albums of 2011 (and probably of the whole 2010s tbf)

such incredible value back in the day too, before postage went nuts

Not a label I’m very familiar with and couldn’t have said who’s on it without looking. But having a look at my RYM, I do like a bit of Do Make Say Think, Ought, and Colin Stetson. Oh, and the Canadian band Siskiyou had a nice album Nervous in 2015, can’t speak to their other ones.

Big fan of this from Esmerine

They’re all really good - first two more straightforward but just beautiful songwriting

I always mean to listen to more Esmerine but get stuck on La Lechuza because I love the atmosphere of it so much. Need to get properly familiar with their other albums

I never especially got into Carla Bozulich but this is an excellent song
