yeah, seinfeld concludes with them all going to jail for being self-absorbed, terrible people, and IASIP revolves around them being increasingly terrible to each other and those around them

in friends it’s never acknowledged that any of them are selfish, other than it’s literally their entire personality (joey loves women, monica is controlling, rachel is spoilt, phoebe overreacts all the time etc.)

well, part of their personality and what makes them the characters they are

But that ending of Seinfeld was dreadful (mainly as the characters always paid the price for being terrible anyway in every episode) and that last episode never happened.

aye, it’s always sunny’s probs the best thing to contrast/compare with, because they’re all such awful people. and in that the characters are awful, racist, bigoted etc. but you couldn’t accuse the show itself of being those things, I don’t think the same thing’s true for friends

still laughing at this

guys can we leave this discussion about the morals of the show for another thread, this is to appreciate the fact it is dead funny

It actually isn’t funny

very inconsisent really. starts out as a shit Seinfeld that misses the point of why Seinfeld worked. gets good soon after, lasts for a few seasons. then becomes really obvious and bad until the end.

your favourite character is Phoebe which says it all!!!

^ I’ll be saying this a lot now ohgood’s out of the picture

honestly thought you were better than this

I’m very sorry to have let you down Shrewbs, how can I make it up to you?

yeah Joey’s womanising hasn’t aged well at all, and now seems quite weird for such an otherwise likeable guy (but i guess that’s real life tbh). what i find weirder though is that shit generic US sitcoms are still writing in the creepy womanising stock character into every show who everyone just regards as a loveable rogue. (tbf at least The Big Bang Theory made their creepy character stop being a creep and get married). i’ve always assumed Dennis is supposed to be a parody of those character types to demonstrate what they’re really like.

Yeah, how I met your mother’s so ridiculous with trying to seem all cute and cool and modern then having a full sexual predator as one of the main characters

unbearably annoying though. when you know someone like her IRL (or someone who likes to think they’re a Phoebe) she becomes very hard to watch.
