Booked our annual family trip on a Santa train last weekend (we are trying a different one that is closer to where we live so that throws in the added trepidation of “will it be as good as the last few years!”).
Miserable comment that I’m going to post anyway as I have scant places to vent.
First Xmas since dad died and I’m utterly dreading it. My mum will be inconsolable, obviously. And I certainly don’t want her to cook, but she’s already expressed the opinion that going out would be a waste of money. My sister is too ill to enjoy a meal or even hang out and if she did she’d need to bring her abusive boyfriend whom I hate, and he hates me, so that would be a grim charade. Also my mum might want to go to her brothers, whose whole family are awful Brexit wankers and I’ll just be itching to go as soon as I get there. I have literally nothing to give or take from Christmas anymore, I think until I have kids (if at all) it’s permacancelled. Fml

Sorry to hear that mate, that sounds like a shitty situation all round. Will happily take you out for a pre-Christmas pint come December. I’ll even get a little something from Tiger.

That sucks but to be honest, please remember that Christmas doesn’t always have to be about the picture perfect vision we get bombarded with in marketing. Sometimes it is just rubbish. Maybe help your mum with the cooking as much as possible and do some things that make the day more bearable but don’t feel pressure to have the perfect day.

My son started it (the official countdown) last week by saying ‘mummy it’s getting dark outside, wooo, halloweeen spooks and santa!!’ and now we’re having to watch endless xmas things on youtube.
I am not ready for this.

Really sorry, man. First one without my dad was weird. We didn’t do presents / decorations etc. Just a quiet day with dinner and all of us hoping it would be over ASAP. Gives you every reason to be a scrooge though, which I found fortunate.
