Cousin cuisine

What was the last meal (or a memorable meal) you had with your cousin(s)?

I saw one of mine at my aunt’s birthday the other week. We enjoyed delicious Lebanese food and a selection of birthday cakes (it was also my cousin’s birthday around the same time).

I saw four of my second cousins at another family birthday just over a year ago. We had a buffet, which was pleasant, but it was nice just seeing my cousins.

I saw another second cousin for pizza at The Stable a while back. She’s the only cousin I’ve eaten with in ages without wider family being present.

One year we took my cousin Donna on holiday with us, very odd as we’ve never really spent any time together before that or after.

What I remember from that holiday is her eating a bacon sandwich and putting salt on it. In the week or two we were away she completely used the once full salt cellar.

What was interesting about cousin houses is that food was the same but with significant differences. Like at my house we had scrambled egg with cream cheese, but we used philidelphia cheese and my aunt’s house had puck cheese for scrambled cheesy egg. We had ribena at our house as the main squash, but my other aunt had vimto. They are both my mums sisters so it makes sense that food was similar but the little differences like that were interesting to little me

Memorable

Me and our Anthony went to Malta with my folks and grandma (I wanted to go to ayanapa but my cousin was having a rough time and wanted a family holiday).
Got friendly with a local bar owner who it turned out was extremely dodgy (he showed us his gun collection and punched a timeshare lad for not paying his dues on time in front of us).
Go out for dinner with my mum, dad and grandma and as were eating bar owner guy shows up, tells everyone me and anthony are great respectful boys and how important family is. He goes inside and leaves. Ask for the bill and they’re like “sorry you cannot pay, we’ve been told your not allowed to pay”.
Mum and Grandma are like, “oh isn’t he lovely paying for us” Dad’s looking at me like “what the fuck have you got yourself into again”.

He was short of some solicitors fees for buying a house so i said let’s go out for summat to eat and work out your options. Bought him a burger, said he was a prick for ordering the most expensive one and gave him the money he needed.
Paid me back unfortunately, wanted to hold it over him

Was the meal for his wedding, I can’t remember the food but we ended up sitting next to some kids (can’t remember whose they were) who let me play with their Lego.

Absolutely no idea what we ate, it was at a pub in Camarthenshire somewhere.

Used to go to Auntie and Uncle and Cousin every boxing day. They served everything that was considered exotic/fancy in the 80s. E.g. Vol-eu-vents, pineapple hedgehogs etc. Also first place I ever had bombay mix. Made myself fuckin sick with it. Cousin was there.

Before that was probably buffet, early 90s, dad’s cousins wedding.

That side of the family love a buffet tbf and I’m on board with that

My aunt once took us to a buffet where the only vegetarian option was a “curry” that was undercooked vegetables in watery coconut milk.
