McDonalds is officially branded as Maccas in Australia.

Once again I am blaming Australians.

This is unfair to Aussies because they would never shorten it to Maccy D’s. Obviously Maccas makes sense because Mac-oh doesn’t really work.

Don’t remember hearing this until a bit later but maybe it just hadn’t hit the West of Scotland by then.

I thought the blame here may lie with the rebranding of Sunny Delight to Sunny D (early 2000s, exact date seems not to be readily available), and had always assumed that had been the trigger for Maccy Ds.

‘Drobe is the worst one so far

I only heard this a week ago! Might head to that things that passes you over thread

This is it for me - makes it feel patronising and a bit pinching down.
Feels different to platty jobs and all that

I met someone in 1996 who referred to Dorothy Perkins as “Dotty Pees”, we all found it quite upsetting.

I think that was quite common at the time?

Said this in some other thread but I had a sixth former who told me that she had missed some lessons recently because of ‘glandjy feves’.

Yeah Sunny Delight could be to blame, I think that was about 2000-1. I can’t quite remember if that came before people saying maccy d.
