Yeah so did we.

Genuinely didn’t think we could still manage 485 post threads in a day, well played crew.

There are examples of the jury and even the judge throwing out a case because they considered the law to be, in that particular instance, to not be a good thing for all concerned.

It used to be the Henry Reader and before that The Wishing Well.

If you are interested in this, you might be interested in reading some stuff on jurisprudence (legal philosophy, basically). Positivism (and critiques of it) in particular. here is a brief and basic intro, but with a super bibliography at the end:

Uh… yeah so you’re talking about the cost of shoplifting. I’m talking about the cost of labour. If there was no labour, the cost of production would be total cost minus cost of labour. So it’s as much an EXTRA COST.

No that’s a completely different argument than the one you’re making, which is people driving up costs of goods for the consumer. And for the record the point I’m making isn’t remotely Marxist or Marxian.

You were talking about the cost of extra Labour to cover those who are slow to pack their bags. It’s not going to be anywhere in the same ballpark as £150 a year per shopper.

Uh-huh.

The Henry Reader closed four months or so ago.

The people who own Small Beer also own the Dukes in Highgate and some place in Tottenham. For those old enough they started out as a record shop (Pure Groove in Archway), then moved to Smithfield and added a bar. Then when their lease ended they just took over a pub and dispensed with the records/CDs.

Small Beer opened to the public quietly between Christmas and New Year and hold their official opening night on 2 February (once all the fixtures and fittings have been fully completed and the pizza oven working, with someone from Napoli making the pizzas).

The ales, six on cask, ten on keg, are top quality.

Was waiting for you to come here and sort everything out Theo. Please don’t let me down.
