I love crumpets

Either with butter or butter and peanut butter

My only qualm is getting buttery fingers, which is hard to wash off- so I went through a period of using a knife and fork to eat them

love them.

Crumpets with butter, avocado, and pepper with a glass of OJ is my go to lunch for when I’m feeling a bit fancy.

Usually have them with butter but a bit of spring onion and/or cheddar is nice too.

They look like American pancakes, which is what they are, just with a different name.

those are pikelets!

Well they’re not, but

This is a very funny thought to me

Pikelet if you’re Australian
American pancake if you’re American
Scottish crumpet if you’re Scottish.

All the same recipe.

Two crumpets, with salty butter. Bottom edge must be crispy, the top firm to the teeth. Not straight out of the toaster, don’t like runny butter dripping off my chin. Butter is not a good beard oil.

Well I’m not any of those nationalities but my aunty always called them piklets so I’m going with her on this one.

I’ve had pikelets and I’ve had scottish crumpets and they’re not the same

And yet they are made of the same things, in the same way.

Have you had scottish crumpets from a Scottish supermarket or bakery?

Either saturated with salty butter or, if I’m feeling sacriligeous, with peanut butter and raspberry jam (and loads of butter).

Pikelets are also awesome. Just butter on those though.

Once heard a loosing contestant on The Weakest Link refer to Anne Robinson as “the thinking man’s bit of crumpet” and was slightly sick in my mouth.

edit: not because I find Anne Robinson particularly unpleasant, but because the slimey little creep-monger had referred to her that way on television

Quite like a microwaved crumpet at the moment. Goes all soggy and floppy but in a weirdly pleasing way. Only just got into it so not sure yet whether it’s a passing fad or here to stay.

WHAT?!?!?!
Ten Hail Marys for you.

Crispy but not overdone with butter, cheese and marmite please.

Well toasted - one with jam, one with marmite (butter on both). Hate an underdone crumpet.

Can’t see that eggy crumpets have been mentioned… Whisk an egg or two in a large bowl, coat the crumpets in the egg, give em a squeeze so they absorb some of it, fry them on both sides… Delicious. Good with bacon, if bacon is acceptable to you. Wharburtons/fluffier varieties work better than most supermarket own brand ones, that tend to be a bit more solid.

Otherwise, standard butter/marmite/cheese combinations. And peanut butter.

Crumpets.
