I don’t think it’s common exactly, but it’s certainly A Thing. I had it once (in Canada as it happens). Was very good, keeps it incredibly moist, which is crucial since dryness is the bane of turkey.

It was a huge fad a few years ago but I don’t think nearly as many do it now. This year’s big American turkey trend is to steam it in the dishwasher.
