I too am an idiot man, but this sounds like an excellent present for someone who likes fresh bread. The only reason not to like it is if you prefer the hassle of queueing at the bakery on a Saturday morning.
I like my breadmaker and use it regularly if it helps at all you can also use it (or at leas t the version Ive got) for jam, croissants, panettone etc
Itâs not the utility, or lack of, that Iâm concerned about. Itâs buying a useful home / kitchen present for my girlfriend. I donât make a habit of doing it, and itâs definitely a step up from a vacuum cleaner, but Iâm still not sure.
Will probably just crack on and give it.
I mean I would probably be happy with it but I would also be like âwhy did you buy me a present youâd benefit from?â
you COULD wrap it up and be like I bought US a present. Then sheâd be like ahh romantic
You could always put some gift vouchers in the metal bread basket thing inside?
@FunkyBadger Iâve got to the stage in my life now where the best presents are ones like this tbh. But yeah as meow says, position it as something for both of you, and get her some other bits and bobs?
gift vouchers for sainsburys for some flour and yeast?
For my 28th birthday, I got a heated clothes airer.
Never looked back.
god I might ask for one of these from my parents this year
Who bought a bread maker after this chat?

iâve floated the idea of one a couple times but the tv doesnât seem keen, seems to think theyâre a load of faff. how would you rate them on the faff scale?
My folks have had a couple in the past 10 years and the one thing I canât get over is that the bread goes very dry after a day or so. Itâs the only thing holding me back from buying one I reckon. Are my parents shit at making bread meo?
minimal faff/10
Plug it in, weigh out flour, measure water in a jug, couple of spoons of yeast, salt & sugar⌠add any extras. Push button.
When its done - pop the bread out to cool, give the tin a quick wipe down.
interesting
Do they have a bread bin? also you can make s/m/l loaves
Yeah theyâve got a bread bin and they vary the loaf size.
Maybe theyâre not putting enough moisture in? I find the bread goes stale a lot slower?
usually eat it too quickly for it to go stale tbh
Faff level is quite low when you get the hang of it. You just need your little digital scales and you can use the bread container thing you put in the machine as the vessel to weigh the stuff out so donât need to use something else
That would make sense I guess. How quickly does yours dry out? Letâs not mrbean/matron this guys, weâre better than that.
